ins .despite the bends
Hey, '• ley, Hey, United fans everywhere! Foxy Mama's
pride, and joy 'have unmistakably and unbelievably done it
once"`again! ! Game No. 5 (League -wise) under our bells and
another fantastic win!
We were pitted against Grand Bend and as Tony can
testify; they occasionally gave u'S the "grand bends"! They
were a remarkabl+y'good team; well coprdinated and hungry
a for a win. They entered the first half with loads of desirq, arld
'determination. They, were unified (LOADS) solidly as a
‘,team, where we were a "teensy" bit sloppy, and at "6's and
7's". They nailed us "tine and. again for eontrol'of the ball
and we fought constantly to gain ground. ' (Why anyone
would want that ground is beyond myHfeeble mind!)
It tvas, therefore, no surprise whatsoever, when they
socked in their first goal and left Us looking a bit illy. Rut in
no time at all, everyone's spirits perked up when "the
Brake", Brian Allan, shot in a solid goal with resounding
force (that's merely a glorified "thump"!!) with the aid of
Dave, "the Dude' Graf's quick and well-placed pass.
Evened up now; we began to feel confident that the match
would turn in our {favor, but as fate would have it, Grand
Bend. got in another goal and they ,really started to push for
the upper hand. GodOich was -still pretty ineffective on most
counts; they just couldn't get it together (or find "it" to put
together!). `
Rolf, Dave and John kept the situation in mid -field well
uncle? control and they literally kept this half from becoming
a wipe-out•! Towards the end:'of this half, Grand Bend scored
, another point to leave this '45 minutes theirs at 3-1. There's
not much to be said for,Unifed during this period — we were,
. hangin' tough, that's about it! The intense heat didn't help
anyone and I didn't envy the guys one little bit! .
Well, needless to say, United talked; things over at half
time.nd switched tactics and a few men around and we
began this half with renewed fervor .and gritty deter-
.,
urination. Gone was the uptight....in was the do right!! By •
golly, you can't believe how utterly terrific Goderich was!
They were like a new team. They got it on and really started
to move and cover that field.
Very shortly into this second half, "The Big H" Harold
Refflinghaus whipped in , beauty of a goal and U'niited's .• „,.
juices were truly flbwingr1VIY•nutes later, we were awarded a"
penalty shot and'you-know-who did you-know-whati,L.Yup!
ole John',Gottschalk slipped' in •our.third and tying'goal and
Goderich was now into their stride.
Easy pickin's from here on in because our boys were

withsy skill. The tide really turned when Karl,"Flash"
. Teichert was put on defense and in the great'tradion of his
brother "The Shadow", he never let the opposition's winger
move one inch without tailing him!
With this man out of the action, the field was left open for
more manoeuvering and the fellas opped up and gave the
opposition such a display, of fantastic -'soccer, 'they never
realized what hit them! Harold "schmucked" in his second
goal of the game and in the beat instant replay of all time; he
again zipped in goal number'5 and he a c''hieveda hat trick for
himself!, , '
Within the next few minutes, Rick "the Tie" Fisher
decided it was high time to lay on one of his famous "drif-
ters" and -in sailed -the ball, to ciptalk up another point ,for
Glgderich and keep Rick's "claim`to fame" intact and un-
- —

n-+Aarrti5hed !
The fans were so jubilant about our six goals, we wouldn't
have asked for more,ut the ever -talented Harold worked
the ball up to a perfec position for Iain Lambert to shoot on
net and "the Rookie" snatched up this pass and placed the
ball squarely in th,goa'1 to,total up the score to a staggering
7-31! "Rookie", you gore lass !
So, Goderich, you've got a team you can be justifiably
proud to call your own. Their, att°tude.is right, their tactics'
are clean and their playing is They sure tore up the turf
in that last half!!'
Player -of -the -day, is unquestionably Harold Refflinghaus
whose skill is a driving force and a pivot on which the team
.. can 'rely. His ability to carry the ball is unequalled.
,S•portsrneri of -he-game were Daye Graf and "Mighty
Mouth" Gottschalk who kept the game together and were
'hard -driving the full 90 niinutes. Karl Teichert made a
definite .impression' on'his piece of territory anld.deserves a
pat on the hack for all his vigorous efforts. `
The 'entire team wag' really -E credit to the game of'Soccer
,.and they performed top- etch in the second half. Can you
''' jitpagine what we'd have done if we'd played the entire game
,'Vike this?? Thanks fellas, for another stimulating, and well
fought match!
Especially„.s~tirnul•ated to lung -popping voice was Jane
Hopkinson, whose talents, ,for rootin' and ravin' have' en-
deared her to Grand Bend players and earned her this
week's "Rowdy Rooter”. Thanks to Saturday's game, her
latent cheerleader longings have risen to the>fore and she is
now in the process of whipping up some'`origina'l" cheers
for United! (can you talo it, guys?? ! ! )
We're very proud of the 4th Division team; the Falcons,
whose game on Saturday was a successful win. They won
.with a score of 3-2 against London Hungarians "B". Earning
'these precious goals were Don BedouJ (great work, Donny! )'
Gordon .McLellan (the go-getting' goal -getter! !) and Allen
Fisher who has the distinction of scoring. the Winning goal!
They
Fisher.
All-out game and worked extremely
hard.
Special mention for George Gould who hustled and bustled
}•nd hung in toperforrri with endless energy and exuberance.
By George, I think he,'s got it! ! Welcome to Casey Wildgen, a
most able asset to'the team.
The Falcons play on Saturday, June 28 at 4 p.m. against
• Lundon Olympians "B" in London. Tbe.3rd Division United
play at home (finally) against St. Thomas Eyegionnaires "B"
at 4 p,m. on Sunday the 29th. Tune us'in at the turf?? United
we stand —Forever! God bless; keep fit, stay happy.
