All too often, the correct order of toasts . and responses are left to the' last minute --then there's a desperate search for someone to explain how it should go. One sound item of advice: Unless, the men of the wed- ding party are professional' speakers they will find that the' most effective toasts are the most simplyp ended. To start with; ` a clergyman or an old family friend should propose thettoast to the bride. Traditionally1 he. will recount. an amusing incident or two from the bride's childhood, ' •comment on Yher:,beauty as S bride and after conveying the good wishes of all the Bests he will congratulate . the groom on securing ''such a prize as hiswife. . The groom should sincerely thank the toastmaster, for .his kind words and assure. him and the other guests that; .in the years to come he will do everything possible to de- serve the bride and make her happy. He will also thank the, guests for coming • and for their, generosity in heaping . the couple set up their new home. He should then include a few words of thanks to both sets of parents, with 'particu- lar mention of the bride's 'mother and part she 'has played in raising her daugh ter and in'the wedding prepa- ratipns. Finally, he comments on the beautiful picture present- ed resented by' the. -bride's` attendants . and on the- help' they have provided during wedding preparations. He asks the guests .to rise and drink a • toast to the bridesmaids. .Replying, the :best man agrees with the groom that a .more attractive and capable group of bridesmaids were never assembled, for ding. if ,he can be genuinely witty he might go on to de- ' scribe some of the more har- rowing experiences 'he and the other members of the wedding. party have, had in getting the bride ready for the wedding. . • -_The final speech sof .the day is made by the bride's.father, introduced by the best man. This speech may be omitted if the father wishes. He will say how happy he and the bride's mother. are to leave the bride's future in such capable -hands. He will then thank the guests for their kindness in corning and invite 'them to eome to the family's. home during certain hours of the next few days so that they may view the gifts, ,facts about crystal With many a bride -elect, the choice, use and care' of crystal 'i ce a puzzlement. .ire 'are some pertinent punters that may help unrav- el the mystery, l'hoosi ng: In costwd i net i n g crystal' with china and silver, select simpte`'classic crystal design if silver and china arc richly patterned; and an intricately decorated trystat if silver and china .are -plain.. if • there is Aa color in your china you like ,very much,' you may wish to - emphasire"th^is color with tinted, crystal such as pal -hlue, olive green, smoked $.,. gray and burnished'brown. .
