Mrs. Robina Renshaw is just "
on of the 24,000 Ontarians who
live in Nursing homes. The
week of June 15-22 is nursing
home week in Ontario an
the diminutive Scottish lady
who now makes hexrhome in an
Ottawa nursing home
suggested this years nursing
home week theme,.`„`Caring is
Sharing.” 0
Each year, the nursing
'homes throughout Ontario that
are members o., the Ontario
Nursing Home Association plan
a schedule of activities for the
nursing home residents, their
relati'ies, families and friends
and the community. For most
,. nursing homes the activities
involve hours of ,;.preparation
and after hours work for staff.
Ironically the same week is
senior citizens week and
numerous- activities at the
• nursing homes involve .local
senior citiiens groups as well.
For many of the residents in
nursing homes the weeks ac-
tivities are a welcome change
and a chance to visit with other
senior citizens groups for
nights of entertainment , and
relaxation.
Huronview nursing home in
Clinton has a' full schedule of
event. plannedfor. the entire
week- involving various senior
citizens groups.and a variety of
programs including everything
from music and •'•flancing to
family nights ,and card games
and bingo.

enthusiastic about the week

has on the members.,
"We would really like to get
people interested in the home
and come to visit the people,"
he said, "Nursing Home week
is a rewarding experience as
more people come visiting and
more interest i wshown in the
members of the nursing
home."
There is also a unique club
among the Ontario Nursing
Home Association members

attract too many more. Ifs
called the Centennial Club and
to qualify you -must be 100 years
of.age.
At present more than 40 of,
Ontario's most senior citizens
live in Nursing Homes,and.are
being honored this week as the
founding members, of the
Club. The eldest ,member of the
club is Mrs. Catherine Inwood,
who turned 107 on Jun 12.
Mrs. Inwood was b9rn in
England one year after Con-
federation and- has' been living
in the Samaritan Nursing
Home in Alliston since 1971,t -
She had been living alone in an
apartment in Toronto dp until
she was 103 years old. Even
then she was reluctant to give
up her apartment. Probably
no-one would validate its
relation, but Mrs. Inwood has
entoyed. 'three glasses of wine,
daily for a number of years,'
The names of the more than
40 members of the Club will
appear in an Honor Roll
