old razzmatozx
By Ronnie Varga
Let's hear if for united, folks! Three -cheers and all that
"razzmatazz" ! ! League game no. 4 in the bag and our fifth
straight win! Ain't it too much?? Boy, were we fab! It was
windy and the ball was fierce to control, bdt we did 'er!
St. Columban was the opposing team and they're, the same
determined group they ever were. They never stop playing
and trying to win until the final whistle; so United had their
work cut out for thein.
We began the first half with plenty of desire and energy .•
and during the first five minutes we were given a penalty
shot and naturally, John Gottschalk was elected to this task
and easily handed us our first goal. Great way to start the.
game, eh? Goderith played good, coordinated soccer. The
defense line was missing Howie Gottschalk, but brother,
Rolf -took his position as center half -and managed to keep the
defense unified and covering man for man. They exerted
every ounce of strength in protecting the Goderich zone and
aiding Goalie Carl Moller. They were top-notch, in fact! (But
• we still miss you anyway, General! ! )
The game progressed favourably for Goderich. Their ,
passing was well-timed and they maintained excellent ball'
control and displayed thoroughness in each play. Dave Graf
was in high form and was seen here, there, and everywhere
onthe field! He was in possession of the ball when he booted ° it
Qin a beautifully -aimed and graceful dead -on shot from about
25 yards from the net and scored the number two goal for
Goderich.
• St. Columban pressured' United .even more for some
opening to gain control, but we were onto the ball constantly
and we gave them a run for their money!: Midway through
this first half, another strategic play enabled Harold Ref-
flinghaus to set up Brian Allan for a goal and he didn't let .is.
down! In ,went United's third goal and out came the Tans'
"war whoops", !'!
Of course, this 'couldn't go our way forever and St.
Columban . (never slouches at the worst of times) laid on
some heavy stuff and eventually gained themselves, a point
13y scoring their first goal. Did you think United was going to
stand for that? (sit; maybe —stand; .never! !) No way! !'
Nearing the final minutes of play, Brian Allan again took
Tull charge of the. ball and "zonked" in the fourth (and
winning) ,goal for Goderich 'and we walked off with this half
•-Securely in' ou sock -The-secoihalfwas-less=auspicibus;-
but nevertheless we maintained our secure hold over St.
Columban. We didn't manage anymore scoring, but they
only got through with one goal (naughty, naughty, John! )'
and we ended the .last .45 minutes with the score a hearty 4-2.'
It wasn't one of our tip-top games, but the desire was there
and if all our plays and maneuvers weren't quite achieved;
it didn't turn off United's fervor one little lkit.
The defense held the game together; the • o contesting
that. The fellas especially, credited with pulling off a.great
game 'were: Rolf Gottschalk - that "Mighty .Mouth" was
mighty mouthy and mighty terrific! Dave Graf (9ur
resident "Tiger" !) - was his usual super -good! Clare Sager -
played a cool, thorough, savoir-fairetype game and never
let down.until the finalwhistle,
Carl Moller -,. protected our goal with quick reflexive
action and made Saves time and again that did United
proud! Fantastic work, guys! !
The newest award for the fans is fast -becoming in demand.
Already we have a second recipient of the "Rowdy Rooter"
•award:.!,:NQne other• tthaq Stan „Profit.; former Coach, who
iforgot4o'check In his mouth at- the gate! ! ! (You tryin' to ..~'
•cornpeterWi.th, ole "Mighty Mouth". -. may as well resign,
.,-. Stan, 'cause he's _tops ! )
Thanks 'a 'million, fans for ,coming out. It was heart-
warming to see so many peopl t th • game. Believe me, it
.counts for a lot.
The.Goderich Police Falcons tied their game with London
• Easy Driving, 1-1. Despite the rain the Falcons played ex-
tremely proficiently and performed all out to produce some_.
skillful and intelligent soccer. Gordon McLellan scored for
Goderich (way to, fly, guy!) and George Gould demonstrated'
for, everyone that good things come in small packages!!
Congratulations "A" and "B" ! !
(Remember the old song, "A" you're "a►scorable", "B"
you're so "boot -i -fug" ! Nov: that's Italian! !)
We play on Saturday the 21st at 4:00 p.m. in Grand Bend
and the Falcons play the same day in London against the
Hungarian "B's" at 3:30 p.m. Any., fans' interested in' at-
tending will be welcomed with joy! So, come out and catch

Rabies — Take care!
Before„you take your dog on
vacation, make sure he's had'
his 'rabies shot. For safety's
sake, Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food extension
veterinarian Dr. H.J. '.Neely
advises that the family pet be
vaccinated at Aeast 10 days
before departure; .
Dr„.Neely says: "In most
parts of Ontario, rabies is
endemic in our wildlife. It's '
possible for the family pet to be
fascinated by foxes and skunks,
which are mainly responsible
for the transmission of rabies to
pets„.
,He issues a strong warning to
parents to keep their children
away from foxes. and skunks.
These animals assume ab-
normal behaviour if infected
with rabies. Under normal -
circumstances, stances, they _will try to
avoid people bti►t when infected.,

"In recent years, it has been

capable of spreading the

"The important thing is to try
and avoid them, but if you are
