silent while you
your shot. If it is a failure,
you have only yourself to blame
— though itis surprising what
other outside influences some
people can find to blame! I'm
sure I invented at least one or
two 'new excuses for my bad
shots on Thursday night when I
playedin Ladies Night!.
After playing nine holes on
Ladies rught this week,' more
than thirty women relaxed 'in
the lounge of the Sunset' and
enjoyed the delicious wines and
cheeses brought by some of our'
members. The most honest
golfer of the night was Freida
Thompson. Congratulations
Freida!
Other winners ' for the night
included: Lil Lougheed, Jeanne
Senior, Pat Ball, Lorraine
Baechler, Peggy Cook, Audrey
Lyndon, Judith -Roscoe, Dianne
Armstrong, Betty Fuller,
Jackie Harrison, Nadine

Men's Night on- May 27th was
a very busy night.
Approximately, sixty-five men
signed in at the Clubhouse —
one of our biggest crowds' on
Men's:_..Night,_yet_this....•season ►.
Low gross for the night was
Doug. Spitzig. Congratulations
Doug!
Other winners were: first
flight, Denis Lassaline, Don
Bedour, , Greg Hansen, and

Weathef- -wise, the,. weekend
got off to a bad start with some
rain on Friday mornipg and
,,Saturday. By.Sunclay. hQw Y.P a,...
. the rain had subsided.' This
change in the weather was
welcomed because Sunday was
tournament.' day for' the
Goderich Lions'Referees. Over
forty referees who' have hung.
up their skates for another
season, attended the tour-
nament.
After their golf game, the
men ate two hearty meals in
the Sunset lounge. Winners for
the day were: first low gross,
Jim Fitzmorris and Ed Daer; °lr
first low net, Jack Mackenzie;
second low gross, Paul
Paqueitew and Don Elliott;
second low net, Bill Gough, Red
Graham and Ken AI°cock; high
hole, Jack Crozier.,, Jack
Meriam, Mel Huckworth, Fred
'Dur?t and Dave Harrison;
hidden hole, Gord Walters; and
high gross, Rill Kirky and Bill
Alcock.
On Monday, 4ne 2, Don
Bedour traveled to the
Stratford Country Club to play
golf in the sectional qualifying
round ' for-, the 53rd Ontario
Amateur Championship.
' Well beginners, according to
Peter Thompson, five ti—tes
winner of the British Open, "If
you get set ,.,up right and look
like a competent golfer, .you
won't go nearly so far wrong."
Your "set-up" consists of
how you stand, where' you are
aiming, your "triangle" (e.g.,
the two arms and shoulders),
and where you put the ball in
relation to your feet. Within •
reasonable limits, there is a
right way to hold the club, a
right way to stand and so on. It
will save time, energy and
frustration if what you are
trying to •a, 's correct.
Then, a: . you gradually im-
prove, at least you are getting
nearer to achieving what is
right rather than getting better
at being bad!
For the next few weeks I
would like to give you some tips
concerning your "set-up". This
week's tip answers the question
"How far away from the ball
should you be?'Stand relaxed,
leaning slightly forward,'. with
your knees slightly bent and the .
whole body in balance. Extend
the left arm and the club 'in a
straight line, notstiffly though
and now youere measured off!
'Give it a try, and . COME
ALIVE IN '75!
