The GDCI junior Vikings
soccer teantlost only one game
all year, but it cost them the
Huron -Perth .championship
heretast Thursday.
' The VikingS, who finished in
first place with an undefeated
regular season record, were
defeated, 2-1, by St. Marys in
the Huron -Perth championship
final, The Vikings had not met
St. Marys previously _ this
' season. •
lain Lambert- scored on .a
n corner in the firsLhalf, which'
'was dominated by the Vikings?'"
However, the Vikings did not
'make the most of their chances,
and the hardworking St. Marys
team came back with two
second half goals to win.
The loss was only the second
in three years of play for the
junior Vikings. The other loss
was also to S. Marys.
The close defeat however.
took nothing away from the fine
season enjoyed by coach Phil
BuglCi-„and his team; and with
eleven team members retur-
ning, next season, they can be
counted on for another big
year.:

Playing without four regulars
because of OFSSA regulations
concerning elegibility. the
Vikings put up a strong effort,
losing 1-0 in their first game
against Toronto Central Tech,
one of the pre -tournament
favourites.
Central Tech scored late in
the first half, taking advantage
of the wind. The speed Of the
Vikings was somewhat nutified

but no penalty was called, and
on the other he lost the ball in
his feet in front of the goal.
In second round action,
Leamington dropped the -
Vikings 2-0. The Vikings played'
well but had given much of
their energies in their first
round game.
Coach Phil Bugler corn-.
mented that the Vikings had
gained the respect of the
tournament convener, referees
and other teams for the
determination, sportsmanship
and desire they exhibited
throughout the tournament.
Stated Bugler "I couldn't "
have been prouder of them.'!
