President Mrs, Earl Sherwood was in the chair and after opening exercises, roll call, an ex- change,of plants and seeds., was answered by 31 members. There were 10 ladies present from the Clinton Institute and two from Goderich Township W.I. and several other guests. All were warmly welcomed by the President and members. The secretary attended the Bell Telephone Seminar in April and reported in regard to information gleaned at, this meeting and the better un- derstanding gathered with regard to Bell Telephone and the Public.' Members were asked to attend the Htronview Spring Tea and Bake Sale on June 4 if possible and if they were able to contribute any baking to this tea, it ' would surely be ap- preciated. Members were reminded of the Si.nshine Sister Banquet this Thursday, June 5 at 1 p.m. It's a pot luck dinner and members are asked to bring their own dishes and a corsage \for their Sunshine Sister. Grade 8 Graduation Banquet will be June 24 at Colborne Township Hall and plans were discussed in regard to this. Members were, informed regarding the June meeting which will be an evening meeting, June 25 at 8 p.m. Miss Mary Ann Miltenburg, Huron 'Dairy. Princess will be the guest speaker and the 4-H Girls and . their leaders are invited and will take part in the program' with the skits and exhibits they had at Achievement Day. Mrs. Earl Sherwood, who ' was the delegate to. the Officers' Conference in • Waterloo early in May gave an interesting ,report.One of the highlights at the conference was the address by "the President, Mrs. Maluske which contained much food for thought. She .streSseot several fundamental findings of life, e.g: - learn the Art of Listening; master tolerance; think kindly, "speak 'kindly and act kindly; -peace begins at home. • She urged the members to voice their disapproval in regard to TV shows of which they do not , approve which contain violence, etc. . Mrs. Sherwood was very much impressed with the visit • -to the Erland Lee Home during the conference and the progress that had been made in the past couple . of years ,to furnish and redecorate this beautiful landmark which is a credit to the Women's Institute., Her closing remarks were a sincere thank you to Tiger Dunlop W.I. for sending her as —a delegate. Mrs. Osborne Falkiner gave a very interesting motto, •• "When you cease to learn you cease to live", and Mrs. Mervyn Batkin of Clinton W.I. • gave two splendid. readings, "One Person's Question" which had serious thoughts, and , humorous selection, ."A letter from a Mother. to her - son", which were much enjoyed- by all. - Mrs. Emerson Elliott then ,introduced the speaker for the Meeting, , Mrs. Jean 13arnett with a topic "Say it with Roses". She shoved interesting slides of England, Scotland Switzerland and Italy and climaxing with the slides of her own. rose • garden which were especially lovely. She answered questions in regard to care and planting of roses. The President thanked' the speaker for her message and presented her with a gift. After the closing exercises the members and guests en- joyed associal, half hour togethr while participating in 'a penny sale. Mrs. Jamessale. Horton was convener of , the lunch com- mittee. SOCIAL NEWS This is the season of the year when young people are graduating from . University, College, and Schoolsand we are always interested in hearing of their individual achievements. Mr. and M'rs. Leslie Pitblado attended graduation exercises at Dalhousie •University, Halifax, May 15 when Jane Fisher, daughter of Mrs. Pit- blado and the late Mr. Elmer Fisher, received her Bachelor 'of Nursing Degree.. Jane was a graduate of Colborne Central Schad' and graduated as a R.N. from Stratford General Hospital in 1969 and has now attained her Bachelor of Nursing Degree. It was an interesting and happy time for „Mr. and Mrs. Pitblado • when they spent a week with their daughter Jane in Halifax before returning home. Jane plans on staying in the Maritimes. Mrs. Helen Pirie attended the Graduation Exercises at Dalhousie University, Halifax, when her •son Andrew was'a graduate in the law class. Andrew. wont the University. Medal in Law for the highest standing in his class. He plans to Article in Toronto. -Many people in Goderich and Colborne Township,- will remember the late Horace Fisher, .who had a harness shop on Hamilton Street. It is in- teresting to know that his son -''Reginald, Who is liow living in Londen, has a son James Reginald who was alsof' in the _. graduation class at Dalhousie University, , Halifax, -graduating in Law. 'arm,'homes, and -real estate 'change hands, people move to Goderich and to the - country. The Glenn's, Jean, Reg. and Ernie have lived all their life in Colborne Township and have made many friends in this vicinity:, They will be living G at 208 Hinks St:, oderich. Dr., Barry Deathe has pur- chased the Glenn farm anthhe .and his family moved there this. past weeke in. Colborne Townshi . Mr. and Mrs. Lang and family ( well drillers) pur- chased Dr. Deathe's residence and are now erecting a large shed. They will. be moving shortly. There are many - beautiful homes in Colborne Township and more being built every year. On- Airport Road three new homes that are nearing completioth, have a splendid view of the Maitland River and are a credit to any Township • are owned by Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Shrier, Dr. and Mrs. K.W. Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. Ben. Homan: , Mr. and Mrs. Eimer Hunter of Stratford celebrated their wedding . anniversary recently , and visited with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Terence Hunter. Tiger Dunlop 4-H Group 1 - held its second meeting of the Garden Club in Colborne, Township Hall in May. Roll call "My Favourite flower and why I like it" was answered by all the rnemberspresent. The girls then discussed their reference files and where tn find articles. They had an in; teresting debate on whether it was better to' grow food or • purchase it in the stores, 'Discussion and advice was then given on. transplanting •z, plants. Plans were madeto have the June meeting on June 19th (a week earlier) at the home of Mrs. Carmen Gross. Mrs. Gross and Mrs. Thomas Cunningham will be in charge o program and the lunch committee will be Mrs. Joseph Hunking and Mrs. Edward Hunking.
