The second meeting of the
Holmesville 1 4H Garden Club
was held May 12 at the home of
Mrs. Betties,
President Marie Betties
opened the meeting and con-
ducted the business. Cathy
Mcllwain read the roll call and
secretary's report. Mrs. Miller
handed out several pieces• of
literature.
Members discussed
preparing the , soil, growing
_young . plants for 'transplanting
and planting the garden. They
also discussed ways of looking
after the garden and flowers,
and tidying up the home
surroundings.
. ,Next meeting will be held on
June'2. The meeting was closed
with the 4H motto.

' second Gardening Club
Meeting on Saturday, May 17,
at Jan G'nn's home. .Karen
Rodges'waS' absent.
Seven girls answered the roll
call of "My favorite flower and
why I like it." The club's,
nickname is "Growing Grubs."
Lynne Hildebrand ,will design
the cover.
Mrs. De Boer. and Mrs.
Hildebrand talked about
preparing the soil before
planting, how to plant some
seeds and how to transplant
small+plants from their boxes to
the garden.
The girls also `discussed .the
genefal'°2�a`rfi Y' 'r t'he-garden",_
plants, and talked about some
of the do's and don'ts of using
fertilizer, weeding the 'garden
• and watering young plants.
For next meeting, record
books and files are to be up-to-
date and some of the garden
planted: Members are also to
try and find ways in which they
can • improve , the general ap-
pearance of, the home
' -surroundings.
Next meeting will be
Saturday, June 14, at Vicky
Oke's home.

courage the girls in this wor-
thwhile project.
Group 1 displayed "an exhibit
"Planning a Wardrobe", and
Group 2 had an exhibit
"Wardrobe Co-ordination for
summer Occasions".
Group 3 presented a Skit,, "A
well planned shopping trip"
and Group 4 presented a skit,
"To Co-ordinate or not 'to Co-
ordinate", and the girls did
especially well.

Bert Dougherty - and daughter
Shirley have started and have
had two meetings in one. The
girls have• to plant their gar-
dens with vegetables and
flowers and look after them and
they will be inspected by the
.Home Economist in the sum-

It was a red letter day for
Karen MacPhee on Friday,
May 16 at Graduation Exer-
cises at Wingham and District
Training Centre for Wingham
Hospital as Karen was one of
the graduatesand also received
second Proficiency Award for
"Bedside Nursing".

and joining with the large
crowd for the Graduation
Exercises and enjoying lun-
cheon in the Hospital Cafeteria
were her parents Mr. and"Mrs.
Grant MacPhee and sister
Cathy of Benmiller and her
grandmother, Mrs. Harold

friend Michael Redmond.
Karen has accepted a
position' on the 'staff of the
Wingham Hospital.

' The . third annual Arthritis
Television "SPECIAL" Will he
held on Saturday, May, 31, from"
7-11 p.m. Once . again the
management of CKNX-TV
(Channel 8, Wingham), have
generously donated the
facilities and staff .to produce
this show. Talented performers
from the Region are once more
donating their time, talent, and
travelling expenses to 'come to
Wingham to make the Arthritis`
T.V. "SPECIAL" a great
evening of entertainment.
William Legg, a middle-aged
farmer from near Elsinore, has
agreed to be The Arthritis
Society's symbol for this year's
"SPECIAL". Mr. , Legg has
mace a dramatic recovery
from the disabling effects of
Rheumatoid Arthritis, with
which he was .stricken in June,
1971.
The Arthritis Society raises
Most of the funds so necessary
to support r'esearch in the
prevention and control of
Arthritis, which is one of the
greatest challenges lacing
medical science to -day.
As in, years,
organizers hope to open the
Arthritis TV "SPECIAL" with
a substantial , number of
pledges which have been
submitted in advance of the
program.
They will respect any
requests for' anonymity, if so
