A foot wide ribbon, actually fabric made from the yarn the company produces, was cut by Robin Dunbar, the son of Textral's founder Leslie Dunbar. The $1 million plant, equipped with the most modern machinery in , the fabric business, employs about 66 people according to company president Jack Burgess. He told a small gathering of company personnel, elected representatives from the town and the county and special guests of Textral that the machinery installed in the Goderich plant was "the best money could buy." The five huge machines, each one valued at a quarter of a million dollars, uses a heat process to turn raw yarn into a flexible, stretchy fibre that is ,texturized, The fibre is then sold to the Dupont Texture and • Residential L3ighting Display .44 . The Goderich plant," now nearing full production, turns out about 300,000 pounds of yarn in a month. Operating round the Clock their three shifts keep the machinery going 24 hours a day, seven days a week. .The expansion. of , their Elmira based company to Goderich was made after six or seven months of research. Robin Dunbar, president of Bartex Holdings which owns'; Textral, said that of the cprnmunities considered, Goderich was "clearly the best." "The large supply of female labor, registered at Canada Manpower and ready to work, was one of the major" factors in the move here," said Dunbar. Female labor' i's of special value to the company for several reasns. Among them,. according to Mr, Dunbar, is the small .size of their hands and fingers and their dexterity ill handling the thin yarn. He added that the workisT1fghf'and can be handled easily by a small person. Further expansion is not out of the question for the Goderich plant' but Mr. Dunbar did not - expound ,,,on the matter. He simply pointed out that the company bought five acres of land in' the .park and "hope to use it." Textral president Jack Burgess was on hand for the opening ceremony as was the-ctithpany's senior employee, Vera. Rahn. The secretaryjoined Textral when the company first opened in Elmira and has been with them ever since. staff photo) GRAHAM ELECTRIC 62 CAMBRIA RD.
