States into the four western
provinces. They contain two
pounds of honey bees and a
queen and build up to strong
colonies by late June. They
produce 70 per cent of the
Canadian honey crop,
amounting to 50 million pounds,
and are then destroyed each
fall. In eastern Canada and
southern British Columbia,' bee
colonies are kept over the
winter.
