The GDCI senior and junior
soccer teams began their
Huron -Perth Conference
schedule here Friday with
„•victories 'over South Huron
•Exeter. The • ,senior. 'Viking5
blanked South Huron, 4-0, and
the juniors shut out their
Exeter opponents 3-0.
The senior Vikings got off to a
siow. start in this, their first
game of the year, but still
scored the only goal of.the first
half when Ron, 'Jag" Sowerby
scored on a pass, from Pat
Conlon.
In the second half the Vikings
showed excellent team play, .
coupled with a strong defensive
effort. They took to , the of-
fensive early, scoringin the
first setonds of the half,

the kickoff into the Exeter end.

completing a series of five well
executed passes involved in the
play.
.The Vikings increased the
margin to. three when Tag
Sowerby scored on a pass from
Kevin Meriam. Sowerby
missed , a chance for a three -
goal game when he failed to
score on ,a penalty "kick mid -1
way through the half. •

Police Report
A two -car collision •at the
corner of Elgin Avenue and
Victoria Street on April 26
resulted in a total of $3000
damages to vehicles driven by
Frank Joseph ° Dopf of 233
Durnad St., Sarnia, and
Thomas Young, 127 Elgin St.
E., Goderich. •
The Dopf vehicle was on the
inside lane on Victoria Street
waiting for the traffic light to
change when the Young 'vehicle
, slid into the rear - of the car.
There were no injuries.
During the past week the
Goderich. Police Department
also laid 31 charges under the
Highway Traffic Act, eight
under the Liquor Control Act,
three under the Criminal Code
of 'Canada and one under the
Narcotics Act. -

The U.S. estimates that every
year about 1,000 persons are
killed and 60,000 injured in fog -
related highway accidents.
Slowing down andusing extra
caution are two musts when
driving in fog, states the
Ontario Safety League.
