BRIDAL SHOWER
Mrs. Kenneth McDougall and
friends were hostesses for a
bridal shower at the home of
Mrs. McDougall for neighbours
and friends to honor Miss Mary
Howson of Blyth prior to her
marriage next Saturday.
Mrs. McDougall welcomed
all and seated•the guest of
honour beneath streamers and
wedding bells with her mother;
Mrs. Fred Howson ' and the
groom-to-be's mother, Mrs.
Harry Arthur. ,
An appropriate sing -song was
led by Mrs. Gordon Gross with
her mother, Mrs. K. McDougall
at the piano. A reading, Twelve
basic rules for a happy married
life, was given by Mrs. Eleanor
Bradnock. Miss Judy Arthur
pinned the corsage on the bride-
to-be and Mrs. William L. Craig
read the address of
congratulations. Many
beautiful gifts were presented
and Mary thanked everyone.
A delicious lunch was served
by Mrs. McDougall, Mrs. Ben
Hamilton, Mrs. William L.
Craig, Mrs. Keith Arthur and
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock.

Mrs. Robert Arthur attended
the Officers' Conference of the
Federated Women's Institutes
of Ontario as Auburn's delegate
last week at the University of
Waterloo.
Mrs."Ross Robinson was able
' to come home last Tuesday
after being -a patient in Victoria
hospital, London for three a
weeks following surgery. "`�
Mrs. Elma McFarlane is a

• The bride chose a floor -length
empire gown of white silk
lagoda with chantilly lace
adorning the neckline of the
bertha collar, cuffs of the
bishop sleeves and trimming
the flounce of A-line skirt. Tiny
crystals were :visible on this
delicate lace. Large bows
enhanced the back. ,The
Cathedral veil of silk illusion
fell from a capelet of lace and
crystals. The bride wore a
strand of cultured pearls, a gift
from the groom. She carried a
white Bible covered with lace
and a cascade of red roses.
The groom wore a beige and
brown tuxedo with,a red rose.
The maid of honor, Miss
Brenda Ball, sister of the bride
wore a floor -length gown of
flocked nylon organza, over
pink with bishop sleeves. The
sheer. inset at bodice enhanced
the., wedding band collar. She
carried a matching parasol
with handles adorned with silk
flowers and wore matching
flowers in her hair.
The bridesmaids were Mrs.
Sharon Hoffman, Hensall,
sister of the bride; Miss Trudy
Machan, Auburn, sister of the
groom; and Miss, Tracy
Machan, sister of the groorrl.
All wore floor length gowns
styled the same as the maid of
honors ,in mint, blue and yellow
and carried matching parasols
with matching flowers on the
handles and in their hair.
The groomsman' was Stephen
Haggitt of Kitchener and the
ushers ,were Bob Gibson,
Gorrie, friend of the . groom;
Daryl Ball, • Madison,
Wisconsin, brother of the bride;
and , Daryk ,Ball' ; of London,
brother of ,the bride. All wore
brown tuxedos with bouton-
nieres to . match .bride's at-
tendants.
Before the bridal couple left
the church, the -bride . handed
the groom's mother a long
stemmed red rose.
Following the ceremony a
reception took place . in the
Saltford Valley hall, Saltford,
with the tables decorated with
andles and flower
rrangements. Assisting the
edding party in receiving the
guests was' the mother ...of the
bride .wearing a floor -length
own of floral pastel nylon in
tyled with an empire waistline
coop neck; and matching full
ength coat in flowing lines,
ong cuffed sleeves and sash.

Funeral services were held
on Wednesday, April 30 at the
Arthur Funeral Home for
' Gordon M. (Curly) Youngblut
who passed away _suddenly at
Clinton on April 27th.
He was born on June 18, 1924,
son of the late John Youngblut
and Sarah Gauley and lived all
his life in Hullett Township. He
attended SS. No. 9 Hullett and
. has been employed for several
years with Bainton Ltd. Blyth.
Hewas a member of the First
Baptist Church,Goderich.
He is survived by one sister,
Mrs. Morley (Jean) Johnston of
R.R. 2 Auburn. Two brothers,
Eldon and Norman
predeceased"him
Rev. W.H. McWhinnie was in
charge of the services with
burial taking place in Ball's
Cemetery. Pallbearers ; were
Charles Shaw, Bob Bell,
Kenneth . Patterson, Ernest
•• Snell, Jasper Snell and,Stanley
Ball. '

her father, the bride was met

rose which the bride presented
to her mother as she was near

'HORTICULTURALISTS
The.. • Auburn Horticultural
--'Society met last week in the
Auburn Community Memorial
hall with the president, Mrs.
Kenneth Scott in charge.
Mrs. Scott welcomed
everyone 'and introduced the
speaker, Rene Jones of the
Ministry of -Natural Resources
with the Wingham district.' He
spoke on the Hullett Wildlife
Management area and showed
interesting pictures of the plans
for this new area.
This approximately 6,000
acres. on thewsouth branch of the
,Maitland' River has already
attracted over 2000 ducks,
swans and geese as they
journey north for the summer.
He remarked that many are
nesting there now andplans are
being made to have nature
trails and sight seeing trips by
foot.
He also spoke of the unusual
plant life found in this area and
especially the nodding trillium
and Green Giant. ' •
A •question period followed.
Mr. Frank. Raithby thanked
Mr. -Jones and presented him

leader who .haS been giving
leadership for many years. The
dinner" was.) held at Win-
dermere -Muskoka and all girls
who had taken,,4-H Work under
her guidande were invited,also
others involved in 4-H work and
leadership.

Maize bride-to-be.
Mrs. Donald Culbert
welcomed the gathering and
announced the program which
opened with a musical selection
by Joanne Culbert on the piano.
Frances and Irene Logtenberg
sang and accompanied
themselves on piano and
gui ar.
Shelley Rivett played a
number on the piano and then
the Wedding March while
Sandra 'took her 'decorated
chair accompanied' by her-
siste•r-in-law, Mrs. Roxie
Maize, cousin, Debbie Maize
and sister, Denise.
Linda Culbert read the ad-
dress and Cathy Snider carried
out theifts.
After the gifts were opened
and circulated around the
group, Sandra thanked
everyone graciously. The
ladies served a delicious lunch
of nut loaf and cheese,

Sorority helps out
The Beta Theta chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority donated
• an Isolette Phototherapy Unit to the Alexandra Marine and
General nursery recently to update, the hospital's equipment.
The unit is for use on jaundiced babies and may allow the
Goderich hospital to treat cases here rather than send them to
