In January this year, Rusty and his little, partner Karen Osborne of Chatham made it two in a row by winning the Novice Dance Competition at the Central Canada Dvisisional Figure Skating Championships in BrandORManitoba. ..This vaulted the hard working dance duo into the Canadian Finals held in Quebec January .27 to February 1 this year, where they finished in the top seven - a great triumph. This past week, exciting news arrived when Rusty was notified he and his partner, Karen, had been chosen to attend the jointly sponsored Federal Government and Canadian Figure Sittling Association Seminar to ,be held June 15 for two weeks at York University, Toronto. Donald Cumming of Chatham, considered one of the best. Ice dancing professionals in Canada and Rugty and Karenscoach, has also been invited. s Only two pairs from Ontario will attend, Rusty and Karen and a, pair from Toronto. Only the best six or seven pairs -in C nada will be there. During the seminar Rusty and Karen will.be working with top professionals of Canada where they will learn- new techniques to improve their skating. After the seminar the pair will attend the Southwestern Ontario Summer Skating Academy where they will board at Alma College., while, they work not only ' on their 'ice dancing but figures and free skating as well. At the present time Rusty and Karen are practicing at the new Western University Sports Complex. They skate four week days from 6:30 to 9:30.p.m. and all Saturday and Sunday. This impressive arena in the Sports Complex will be the scene of . this coming year's Canadian Figure Skating Chainpionships next .lanuary. It is to 'be hiiPed that the Goderich Sports Complex with its extra ice -surface will be ready in time to claim 'that the champions skated here'. Police report Four motor mishaps buring the past week the damage estimate on those Goderich Police Depat-tment vehicles was set at $650, was to investigate several accidents in town. On April 18 vehicles lriven by John Van Egmond of Hullett Harvey J. Johnston of 114 Nelson Street, Goderich, collided at the corner of Elgin Avenue and Victoria Street. There was $400 damage to the Van Egmond vehicle and $150 to the Johnstop vehicle. In a single car accident on April 23 a vehicle driven by Larry J. Smith of 56A Albert St. N., Goderich, struck :two parked cars while travelling west on Maitland 'Road. 'in a second single car ac, cident Bruce W. Sparks of 188 Stewart St.,, Sarnia lost control of his car attempting to make a left hand turn onto MacDonald Street from Britannia Road. Total damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,000. , In a third single -car accident Margo I3regr1an of 151 Wilson St., Goderich, was attempting to4nake a turh onto Britannia Road from Wellesley St., but niisjudged the corner and struck a tree.
