Also in Level 1, kirk Lyndon and Dave Weary adjourned 1 their first game with Kirk having a slight positional ad- vantage..This game could last, 1 ono a while yet and could still et v easily go either way. In Level 2 quarter -finals Harold Kloeze won the first game against John Kane while Glen W' fight man lost the . first Battu' against John Kloeze. John Kloeze has become a greatly improved player this year and is continuing to prove he belongs up in Level 2. -In the Third Level quarter- finals Laird Eisler won his first game against Darrell Kloeze, However John bounced back to take the second game tying the series at one game apiece. ., Larry McDougall won the first game against Don Bogey, Don Bogey then bounced back to take the next two games and the series two games to one.. John went on to play the first game of the semi-final series against Bob Dick. In' this game Bob got off to a bad start but bounced back to wip. Although Larry McDougall has been...eliminated in the playoffs he showed substantial improvement this year winning almost half of his games. With one more yepr's experience experience behind him Larry should become a strong Second Level contender. In Level Four quarter -finals Larry Gower lost the first game against Kathy Weary but came right back 'with .a win in the second game to tie the series at one game apiece. Jim Gower lost his first game against Bob Cox but also bounced back to take the second game and tie the series up. Doug Brindley advanced to the semi-finals' by defeating Brian Sho,rtreed in two games. This was Brian's first year with the chess 'club and Brian showed real potential of becoming a strong chess player with a few more years ex-' • perience under his belt, Members number 30 Three years ago, Jim Kingsley of Goderich felt that this community and the people here,should be more interested in chess. An avid chess player himself, he didn't have anyone who could play the game with.him. So, he decided to start a club. ' At this time, the 1-luron County chess club has 30 members. Many high school students have shown an interest for this game as well as others of all ages and interests. The club operates from October tb April every year. The youngest member is ten, and there is only one girl member. The club still does not have special place to meet, so for the last two years, Mr. Kingsley has beenholding the meetings in his home. , At the end of the season, a trophy is presented to the person with the most points, at the banquet held by the club.
