This summer will see many: interesting things happening in Goderich - I hope: For Cen- litennial '75 "there are a great many things being planned and each and every one of you should jump in and help just as you.did in that great Centennial year, 1967. Do you recall all the things that happened that year?. Things you were volved in? tl A year or more was spent talking about the celebrations - but I still think a lot of the things that happened were done in .a short time in THAT year. So, here we are again, get your thinking.' cap on and we, can have a fine Centennial celebrating Goderich being a town for 125 years. There is lots of room forideas in and around our old Jail. The Committee would appreciate any. ideas on the use of .the courtyard - actually there are two that could be used, One for young - old, theatre arid such - the other. could have swings etc for children's play yard. Think! The Committee is trying to refurnish some of the rooms of the house with furniture of the period before the First World War: Things around 19,00 are 'hard to find and will have to come from people who would wish others to enjoy these old things but want to know that these pieces will have good 'care and will not be used or abused. It will be like putting them in the museum - see but don't touch. That era, a lot of oak fur- ni.ghings were used. Oak dining room things, chiffoniers, wash stands and the old iron or brass beds, living room - or parlor table`s, a davenport or 'couch, a Morris chair: - The 'parlour suites' at that time were of birch with mahogany finish. Any display cabinets?, And "does anyone have any of the nice old cotton lace curtains tucked away somewhere.:These were used in those days, also the velour drapes: , I'm sure there must be some ,of these things laying around that could be re -vitalized - let the Committee decide whether they can bring it back to life or not. • ' Call Dorothy Wallace if you have anything they might use 524-9372. It will receive the best of care and everyone can enjoy it. - Speaking of reviving the bits of history for our great gran- dchildren the old Park House is up for discussion. There will be a meeting next Monday night at the assessment office, Napier St. at 8 o'clock: This building is about the oldest in Goderich having been built about 1838 for Tom 'Mercer Jones who was head of the Canada Company in those years-. In 1945 a fire destroyed the steep roof and upper story but the rest of the place can be restored to its original shape. The walls are real, thick with those lovely ,wide window sills and" shufi;'ers°"'and"'""fund`s-are- probably 'available thru' the Ontario Government Heritage Act to take care of the• restoration. Anyway - how, about at- tending t tending the meeting to make sure another fine old- building does not go under the axe. What else do we have to leave the 'ew• generations but bits of the past? The workshops will be an attempt to iron out a secondary plan for' the Township of Colborne to organize land-use, The Colborne Township Council requested that the -Huron Planning Department prepare a detailed, land, use plan with development policies. Last summer a student researched the township and prepared land use maps, which were turned over to the .plan- ning department. A plan ,was discussed with council and workshop dates were established to present the idea to the residents. Huron County had previously V- v •• Mouth — adopted 'a county official plan the first one in the province, but that plan cannot suit all the needy of the people in the county. Therefore it -left it up, to each town with the aid of the' planning department to draw up a secondary plan. Huron County planner Gary Davidson told the meeting that the plan could have far reaching implications but it was to overcome conflicting land use and' also presents a' vision of the future.
