More volunteers
needed for billettng
ee Wee tourney players
With hundreds of boys
coming into Goderich for the
Lions Young Canada Peewee
Hockey Tournament the town
of Goderich turns into a large
hotel. • Providing ac-
commodation for the young
hockey players is a job taken
care of by the townspeople who
do their small bit to make the
tournament a success.
• r Ma
In preparation for billeting of
a tournament a list of the
people Who took billets the
previous yearn is kept and these
people are contacted prior to
,the tournament. Billeting
ch -airman Paul Rivers
estimates . that there were as
many as 90 families on the
working list but the billeting
committee is still in need of
more assistance.
Paul has worked with• the
ooh tournament committee • in
previous years but it is the first
time that he has worked in„the
capacity of - billeting. He
estimates that as many as 1300
boys will • require ac-
commodation throughout the
week and that,the list of
volunteers is just ot as big as
he would like it.
Paul,. -would appreciate a list
!larger than the requirements
0
since there are many factors or
variables that could make his
job complex. Weather for
example could compound the
problem of accommodating
boys if there is a bad storm and
'teams who .were expected to
leave were forced to stay. It
has happened before.
Time is also a factor' ,that
could be for and against -the
billeting committee. Usually
teams within a 100 toile --radius
of Goderich head for homeonce
they are knocked out of the
tournament regardless of the
time. However if a team has
come 150. or 200 miles and gets
knocked out of the tournament
in a night game they may ex-
pect to be put up for the night
and return hot -he -1"n the mor-
ning.
However Paul isn't about Ito
begin sweating and if need be
as many as three. players .can -
be squeezed into a- household
which has happened on oc-
casion. Although there is` no
real foreseeable problems the
committee could find itself in a
bind at some time and it would'
help to have people to rely on.
Paul and other Lions members
will be hustling for more billets
within the next week and'it is up
to the townspeople to open their
doors.
