Since that second township
skating party at Goderkch
never did materialize (jut no
spare time arose in that busy
arena's schedule), the
Goderich Township recreation
council has planned a com-
munity card party, to chase the
winter blahs. It will be held in
Holmesxille school auditorium
on Thurs, Mar. 20. Ladies are
asked to please bring lunch; the
men, a card table. A silver
collection will be taken at the
door.
Such were some of the plans
made at the Feb. meeting of the
Goderich Township Recreation
Council held on its regular date,
the fourth Wednesday of the
Month, Feb. 26 at the township
office in Holmesville.
What's the first step in
developing -our newly acquired
lake front park? Jerry Ginn,
township reeve, answered this
one by listing the initial plans
for 1975: - provide • parking
• facilities; fix an appropriate
access to' the beach; and
provide picnic tables, When the
warmer weather arrives, the
township residents should be
eager to see this ideal picnic
and bathing area at' the end of
Blackpoint Rd.
"Picnic tables for the park"
is a special project in mind for
the enthusiastic arts and crafts
ladies. H.azel McCreath
reported that the ladies are
already *half done appliqueing
blocks for a township quilt
which they intend finishing this
winter.
Tickets will be so n d b the Ontario does not
benefit Bayfield, have expressed in-
terest in this from the plant
identification aspect, John
Westbrooke volunteered to seek
out a possible outdoorsman as
another instructor.
Also at the March meeting, it
is hoped a summer .sports'
program may be set up. Last
year's coaches will be invited to
attend this meting to assist in
the planning. It is hoped that an
exchange games program may
be arranged with neighbouring
townships as well.
the recreation council
planned their $1,000 budget for
1975: mirror sports $400; crafts
$200; township picnic $100; and
administration costs $300.
The membef's j•;, are still
chuckling over the good time
they had at the Wednesday
night over -16 -group volleyball
game under the direction of
Doug Yeo. They challenged the
,recreation council members to
a game and discovered it was a
great night to bolster ones

from concern about tile

Houseplants need care
with good common sense
Many houseplants are
watered too much, to little,
or at the wrong time of day.
"Houseplants should .be
watered- only when the sail
surface becomes dry", says
Qntario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food hor-
4iculturist, R.F. .0arhme..
"Too much water deprives
plants'of oXygen and causes
ret, so a thorough tkatering
once every, six days, is
usually adequate. Shaded
plants require less water
than those in the sun, and
recently pruned plants' hould
be kept cider than' normal
until new growth develops."
However, singe everything
a plant consumes is in liquid
form, underwatering can be
as harmful as overwatering.
A sandy soil mixture causes•
plants to dry out faster than
clay or peat mixtures, and
the. smaller the plant pot, the
more frequently water is
needed. When plants grow
rapidly or,-, bloom, they also
need more water.
To prevent the develop-
ment of mildeW or rot, water
plants early in the day so
they have a chance to dry
out during warmer daylight
hours.
