_The use the pool receives '
-during the summer prompted
the suggestions that something
be done. Recreation Mike
Dymond reported to the group
that over 11,000 people visited
the pool from June 7 to Sep-
tember 2. He added.that about
900 of them were involved in
regular swimming instruction
Classes, 700 of 'whom were
children.
The council move to spend
the minimum amount to allow
the pool to open hinges .on the
ssibility of the town building
an indoor_ pool. The recreation
complex proposed for Goderich
includes an indoor pool and
council is wary .of spending a
large amount on Judith
gooderham only 'to have the
pdol abandoned by the public in
favor of the indoor site.
Recreation Director Mike
Dythond investigated the effect
George ShearJown
of his opponents ' but the
average weight of the unlimited
, competitors was around the 200
to 225 mark.

an indoor pool had on outdoor
facilities in other
municipalities. He cited
Tillsonburg pointing' out that
the outdoor pool there had as
much use as always, after the
indoor pool was built.
the TO director went on :to
add that Gooderham is a
mechanically sound pool with
an _expected life of 20 years if
the machinery is kept in good
repair. The new filter system,
installed two years ago, is
modern and the pool lining has
been repaired and has no leaks
at all.
Any money spent to merely
allow the pool to open in June is
money "thrown away" ac-
cording to Mike Dymond. He
said that. any new plumbing
installed now would only have
to be relocated if any new
construction is undertaken and
some of the equipment would
be useless inthe new building. ‘'
It would be' ironic if the
project was completed on a
donation basis. The pool was
donated to the town in the first
place:
