Marine and General Hospital
_Auxiliary u.eeting was held
Monday February '17 in the
Auxiliary Room. Preparations
for the annual Tea and Penny
Fair are underway. The prizes
will be on display in Denom-
me's Flower Shop window after

The dessert tea and bake sale
will be held in Knox Church
Hall at 2:30 on May 28. The
winners of the Peppy Fair draw
will be announedat that time.
Mrs, Charity McDonald
asked the Auxiliary if they
could do some voltinteer work
to help the nursing staff. Mrs.
McDonald said there is so much
sickness in the town that the
hospital has been very busy.
since mid-December. Also, the
nursing staff has been hit by thea
flu.
Mrs. McDonald explained the
type of help she needed was
varied feeding of the elderly,
taking care of the patients'
flowers, delivering mail
through the hospital, taping
patients from their floor by
wheelchair to X-ray, en-
tertainira young children, and
straightening linen in' the_cup-
boards, She said all these jobs
are very time consuming when
staff is so busy. '
jVliss Theresa Kirkey, the
hospital dietitian' was the first
of many department heads who
will speak to the Auxiliary this
year'. Her talk was m9st in-
teresting and enlighting.
Miss Kirkey said shgstries to
keep the meals as close t home
cooked as. possible. All the
soups and desserts are made
right from basics and package
mixes are not used.
The menu repeats itself
every 14 ,days, she said. They
can prepare meals for a
maximum of 99 patients and 70
staff.
Miss Kirkey explained that
the menu system, where the
patient chooses his own meal
was most economical as there
was very little, waste in lef-
tovers:
The hospital also prepares 14
meals for "Meals on .Wheels"
each day. The kitchen can
handle up to 33 different diets.
Miss Kirkey invited the
ladies to come to the -kitchen
and see the trays being
prepared for dinner so they
would have a better insight into
how the kitchen operates. -
