The prizes were as- follows; high man, Howard Johnston, Goderich; high lady,Mrs. Howard Johnston; man's second prize, Linfield Anderson, Goderich; ladies' second prize, Mrs. Jim Errington. The prize for the wedding anniversary dile nearest to February 14 was won by Mr. and Mrs. Bert Alton; the prize for the nearest.birthday Dungannon United Church on. King indicated a marked increase in the work load of the force as the 'amount of ocCurrences handled or investigated by the police in- creased. - The amount of motor vehicle collisions was reduced in 1974 but there was an increase in persOnal injury resulting from the accidents. 'me number of accidents investigated was 270 down 32 per cent from the 1973 totalsif,358. Although the nurnber of overall charges laid increased by more than 60 per cent the number of warnings issued for traffic and other minor of- fences increased by over 132 per cent. The officers ' were encouraged to issue warnings to- offences of minor nature where there was no danger to other persons, thus placing the accent on the offence and not the offender. Breaking and entering of- fences increased by 29.per cent in 1974 with 44 instances rep9rted. Theft ' of motor vehicleswas up by 44 per cent while theft of under $200 in- creased by 551aer cent. Tliere were 140 reports Of willful damage which was an increase of 57 per cent over the 89 reported incidents a year earlier. Offences of causing disturbances rose by 21 per cent while drug offences, reached 45 up by 32 per cent. Sympathy of the Community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Ted MacLean (Alma Chisholm) on the death of her mother Mrs. James Chisholm, the former Angela Quigley of this area, in Victoria Hospital, London, on Sunday, February 16, in her 77th year. Her husband,. Jim Chisholm died on January 12. Sympathy is also extended to Mrs; Alphonsus B,pyle, and Mr.. and Mrs. Raymond Boyle and family on the death of Alphonse Boyle on Sunday;February 16, in his 87th year.' District Collegiate Institute to visit in Quebec 'City and attend the Quebec 'Winter Carnival: They left Goderich on Tuesday, February 11 and travelled by bus' to Stratford where they boarded the train for the • remainder of the journey. They returned home on the following Saturday and all report a delightful time.
