N7A .2G4 Home ice victories Sailors Friday in the first game, of .the quarter finals in the O.H.A. Intermediate "C" playoffs, Goderich defeated Kincardine Texaco's 7-5. Kincardine pulled their gealie in the last minute of, play and with only 26, seconds remaining tied the game 4-4. Then ° in the 10 minute .of overtime - Sailors scored .. a couple of quick goals, one in 15 seconds and then two y more, outscoring Mel's Texaco's 3-1. Kincardine opened the scoring for the only goal in the first period as Gord. Maclntyre picked up a perfect pass from Jim Bell, and beat Chuck Jewell on a powerplay goal. Ron Miller got the equalizer to start the second period from • • gat' Kincardine split• - Wane Fisher and then " 45 seconds., later got the go-ahead goal blasting a high hand one to the top corner on Dave Riggins stick side, Before the second period ended. Jim Hayter skated in all alone to score after receiving a pass from Paul Corriv.eau and Cam MaQQDonald. Kincardine picked up their secondtoal when the Goderich defenseman lost the puck inside Kincardine blueline. Bud Williams skated the length of the ice and letting a low drive go making it 3-2 by the end of the second period. In. the third period Kin- cardine applied the pressure as both teams picked up a goal in the first two minutes of play. Jim Farrish combined, with Cam MacDonald and Bill Jansmen for, the Sailors only goal in the final period. Bud Williams picked up his second goal asp he was 'the most aggressive player on the ice and he was responsible in setting up the tying goal which ways scored by Jim Bell with only seconds remaining. In oyertime - Wane- Fisher scored on the first play as he combined with Ron Miller to beat. Dave Riggin, Dirk Wolterbeek started the play. Kincardine came right back as John Pym knocked in Williams rebound, but it wasn't enough as Wan Fisher got his second overtime goal from Tom Crawford, In Kincardine, Sunday • af- ternoon it was a different story. Kincardine trounced the Sailors 9-5. Cam MacDonald scored three goals and Bill Jansmen played his best game in a Sailoroutfit. By way of interest there is a couple of new players' in Mel's Texaco's and Goderich• will have to play better hockey if they wish to win. The next game is Friday night at 8:30 in Goderich. Y. The Signal -Stars capped a dramatic comeback in the best- , of -five se'ries sweeping the final three games and clinching the series with a '6-2 victory over Petrolia Sunday afternoon. The Signal -Stars scored two goals in the first 43 seconds and never looked back as they won the first round' of • the OMHA -playoffs three games to two. Ron •. Sowerby started the scoring at the 20 second mark - on a. backhander' from Grant Shelton and Kevin Meriam. Dennis Reed, Paul 'parsons and Brian Meriam played well for the last five minutes keeping the puck out of, Goderich's end zone ' while their team was short handed. The Petrolia team at, this stage was getting quite chippy and sticks started to come highin exasperation of the series end result. Pete Duckworth came up with a stellar performance in the nets constantly robbing the opfosltion on close -in chances. For Duckworth it was one of his Meriam and Doug Marshall. Don Cook, the starting Petrolia , goalie who had been.brought up from their midget ranks was pulled and "Ron Tetrault was pain. • . At 3:35 of the second period Doug Marshall, intercepted a clearing pass and broke in all alone beating the Petrolia goalie high on.his stick side. At 110:37 Petrolia finally scored on a scramble in front` of the net with Greer scoring VIA Field and Dobbin. At 12:49 Godericn again regained their four goal lead' wi-th4Al Worgan keeping his slapshot on the ice and beating ' the Petrolia goalkeeper. He was assisted by Grant Shelton. Shelton then finished off Goderich's scoring unassisted. Petrolia ndtched their final goal'of'the game also in the second pe,iod as the puck barely dribbled over the goal line.
