And, at ther expense. Stewart said last Tuesday, "I know that wolves create real problems for farmers, but there are some animal lovers and conservationists who would rather hear a wolf howl in the moonlight than have food on their tables". Stewart went on to say that he will consider bringing back the $25 wolf bounty. F.O.N. President Barry Grif- fiths reacted strongly. "Mr. Stewart must be grand- standing. He fully realizes that bounties are useless, and this fact has nothing to do, with either 'conser tationist's' or 'animal lovers'. Cronser- vationists are being tnade scapegoats to .let Mr. Stewart out from having to say that bounties accomplish nothing,".,, he said. Home Economist Dorothy Batcheller offers some familiar guidelines to° help. 1. Write out the menu for all meals for Christmas day. 2. Write 'out the shopping .lists early. Make one for the non-perishable staples which may be purchased when.shop- ,. ping well in advance of Christmas week. The°second list will contain those items •which are perishableand must be bought closer to the holiday. 3. List those things which may be prepared one to two days before Christmas; such as perhaps' the pudding sauce, mincepies, jellied salads, etc. 4'. List jobs which can be done by you or members of the family in advance such as assembling the extra dishes, silver and linen to be -used. 'Start thawing the turkey far enough ahead so it will be. thoroughly thawed. Once thawed, the bird may be held for up to two days in the refrigerator before roasting. Remove the freezer bag when turkey is: thawed, rinse, dry and wrap loosely with waxed paper, plastic film or foil to keep it from drying out. . 6. Christmas eve, assemble_ ingredients. for the turkey stuf- fing but do .not make and puT it in bird until just before ' ,- goes into the Avon. Dry iti°gredients•need not be refrigerate 7• Clean vegetables and, get them . ready for last minus preparation. Wash salad greens and store in"refrigerator in a plastic 'bag.° If celery and carrot curls are on the menu, prepare them and store in a covered glass sealer or plastic bag. Mexican Chrhtmas ,celebrations different BY ROBERT JOHNSTON CONESTOGA JOU.IFNALISM STUDENT - r Feliza Navidad is the way Mexicans wish each other a Merry Christmas. Their celebratiorrs begin on the night of 16 December and continue till the, 24 December and these are called posadas. Each night Mexicans go out with their friends and, sing special songs before their friends' houses. The traditions of the songs and this festive parties are an enactment of the story of Mary and Joseph going through ,Bethlehem searching for a place to stay. The search continues each night until one friend lets you in. These parties feature the pinata, which is usually a paper mache animal filled with can- dies, peanuts and fruit, A blin- dfolded guest, is given a stick anti swings tnadly till the pinata is broken and then the children scramble for the treats. The three Kitigs mentioned' in the Christmas story, replaces' Sahataas- the symbol for their gift exchanging. Mexicans ex- change their .gifts on 6th of January. They celebrate with a mid- night Christmas Mass and they sing Spanish carols, many of them familiar to Canadians. "We support a program that eliminates individual problem al,nimals but we cannot support such an indiscriminate mechanism as a bounty," he said. Griffith goes on to note that coyotes are not uselsss, but play an important role in keeping rodent populations in check., "Mr. Stewart implies that leaving coyotes alone reduces food on the table, when even Mr. Stewart should know that coyotes probably increase total food production, by eating destructive rodents — for free," Griffiths concluded.
