Huron_perthBoard meets
Separate Schools hire another asst superintendent

At a special meeting of the
Huron -Perth Comity Roman
Catholic separate school hoard -
held in camera last Wednesday/
rhe decision to hire another
assistant superintendent of
education was reached, -
Howard Shantz and David
Teahen, two Str;atfor'd trustees,
opposed the action in a recor-
ded vote asked for by Mr.
Shantz. Supporting the ad-
ditional hiring of the superin-
tendent were rhe remaining
eight fru-steel of the len
trustees at- the meeting:

The assistant superintendent
would be hired in lieu of two
consultant,. The board has had
two consultant vacancies since
early las_ t year following—the
resignations of •the ”special
education consultant and • the
primary consultant.
• John Vintar, superintendent
of education, said the ministry
of education is favouring the
hiring of supervisory services
rather than consultant services.
Following' the meeting, Mr.
Shantz said, "I can't support
the hiring -at all." He said most
,hoards have one supervisory
person for every :3,000 students,
and already the Huron -Perth
Board has two for :3,000
students.
Mr. Connolly said it is hoped
that the new assistant, who
would he working with Mr.
Vintar and the present
assistant superintendent,
Joseph Tokar, would have ex-
pertise in the area of
curriculum and program
development as well as
Midgets readg
