The Goderich Signal-Star, 1974-12-12, Page 7Green thumbers plan Christmas party with a difference The Green Thurnbers Garden Club met in the Robertson School Friday evening for their monthly meeting , with President Scott Wilson in the chair. Following a welcome to special guests and members the Gardeners' Creed was repeated in unison. Roll call was answered by each child naming his or her favorite house plant and a report of progress made with their geranium slip ;and tulip bulb presented to them at their last meeting. Following the reading of the minutes by Secretary -Treasurer Michael Madden, Patrick Mad- den presented a report on the sale of draw tickets on a Teddy Bear cake 'made and donated by his mother, Mrs. ~Madden. He was happy to announce that this draw and their first fund- raising project netted the club almost $25. dens, birdhouses, crafts, scrap books, nature collections, etc. were suggested and encouraged for winter activities, preparatory to exhibiting at the Spring, Flower Show. of the Senior Garden' Club, in the Junior Section. A Christmas party that` is "different"' is -planned for December 20. Details will be forwarded . to "members. Following the business at hand Sharon Moriarty presen- ted a demonstration on Citrus Pip gardens and Root Top gar- dens; Michael Moriarty demon- strated the planting of a cactus garden, and ideas for .a desert scene in your own home; Dwen Moriarty demonstrated the use of pellets in planting a Herb Garden. Approximately 50 members of the Kingsbridge Catholic Women's League, Reverend Father Ed Dentinger and Brother Carl Voll attended the Christmas dinner meeting for tdhe C.W.L. on Monday evening, December 9 at the M. and R. Mayfair Restaurant in Lucknow. Mrs. Antone VanOsch 'won the door prize which 'was donated 'and drawn for by Reverend Father Ed Dentinger. Mr. -and Mrs. Con 'Hogan visited during the week with their daughter, ,Miss Fay Hogan in Owen Sound. Ten'members of the Goderich and 'District Pro Life Group from this area attended the First Annual Dinner Meeting held in the Christian' Reformed Church Hall, Clinton on Wed- nesday evening, December 4.. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ross of Kitchener visited during the week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Courtney and family, Harry VanDiepanbeek and Michelle Austin have each been' the lucky winners of Christmas Cakes won at the raffles held at the Lanesville Store. .Gary Courtney was the lucky winner of a box of Dutch cookies won at the draw held at Bill 'VanOsch's store, Kintail. Congratulations to the Senior Girls' Volleyball Team from Kingsbridge who were the Volleyball Champions, at ' the Volleyball Tournament held in the Goderich District Collegiate Institute on Saturday, Decem- ber 7 and to the Senior Girls of the Robertson Memorial Public' School of Goderich who were the runners-up. The boys and girls All Star Volleyball Team attended a tournament on Saturday. The boys won the championship, and the . girls won the .final. Kingsbridge girls won the championship. The G.D.C.I. Band will be coming to Robertson School on December 10 to present a con- cert.4 ~. Mr. Crawford's Grade 8''s had a spelling competition and Randy Stoddart's team won.
