Last Wednesday Dr. Frank
Mills Huron County Medical
Officer of Health •gave the
Women's Day Out group the
low down on the Mustard
Report which was written by
Dr. J.F. Mustard and his com-
mittee on the health care
delivery system in Ontario and
recommended a reorganization
plan for the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Mills stressed that
everyone is a consumer of
health care. Therefore we
should be deeply interested in
tte changes to take place in
1935.
As a consumer, I began to
wonder what this would mean
to me. Every once.in a while I
feel. rp ten enough to make an
appoi>t ent withmy family
Doctor. He looks into my eyes,
listens to my complaints, takes
my temperature, blood pressure
etc. and gives me an.expensive
prescription for pills. We part
with the assurance that if I
don't feel better after taking
the pills, I should come back.
Now, under the re -organized
an, I would ring up the Com-
munity ,Health Centre where
all the area health
professionals (doctors, nurses,
social workers, family, coup-
' sellors, public health nurses,
dentists etc.) work.
If I live in Goderich and the
.. Community Health Centre is in
Clinton, free transportation
arrangement's Will be made.
When I arrive I will check in
at the desk. If I have been there
before my file will be taken out
and put into a ' pile . to be
processed.' If it is my first time
- at. the Centre someone will take
my medical history. It will be
decided whether my tem-
perature,.. blood pressure, blood
count etc. is needed.
By this time they may
discover that I have a
toothache - and make
arrangements for me to see the
dentist, or my black eye has
been caused by a family fight
and I will be turned over to a
family counsellor. Or my tem-
perature, pressure,, blood count
etc. are normal, perhaps I'm
just lonely and a social worker
could' rearrange my •life•'
If I••am sq; fac.,out that the
social worker can't com-
municate she or he .might
suggest that a psychiatrist- be
consulted. On the other hand if •
