Sailors
extend
losses
BY JACK CUMMINGS
In the third exhibition game,
the Goderich, Sailors• were..
routed 9-3 by the Port Elgin' •
Sunocos, Friday in Goderich.
The visitors ' opened the
scoring on a powerplay goal by
Al Blair at the 1:1.8,,ma'rk of•the
first period. Mike Courtney set
up'the tying goal for the Sailors
as Earl Grant juggled his golf
'shot and Frank•Hagan knocked
in the loose puck.
Before the end of the period;
Port Elgin scored -two more
quick goals. Les Kingston
caught 'the, defense off guard,
and a Goderich player tried to
clear the puck from their„ own
end and passed it right on the
stick of Ron Bell to make it 3-1.
'- Jim Hayter skated the length
of the ice and through the
Sunoco team to make it 3-2, in
the second period.
Scrabbly hockey was played
by both Port Elgin and the
Sailors as both missed several
opportunities ,to score.
Only other goal in the period
was by defenseman, Murray
Mass of Port Elgin as he let a
screen shot go from the blue
line to beat Rick Duckworth.
In the third period, Wayne
Rau was accidently cut by a
stick as he and a Port Elgin
player collided and both fell to
the ice. . He was rushed to a
London hospital with undeter-
mined injuries to the right eye.
Dirk Wolterbeek got the
Sailors final goal at the 5:07
'mark of the third period as he
-bounced one in off the goal
post. Viet was all the scoring
for Goderich as Port Elgin
went on to•score 4 unanswered
goals.
Dean Symons picked up
two; Les Kingston got his
second of the night: and Wip
Lamont got the other.
