MRS. BESS S. MacKINNON
The death of a former West
Wawanosh native, Mrs. Bess
Smyth Mackinnon, occurred in
Toronto on Friday, November
lst,� in her 87 year,
She was born oIn-:,buly 17th,
1888, a daughter of George
Smyth and Rebecca McAllister
of West Wawanosh.
Mrs. Mackinnon received her
early education at St. Helens
and Dungannon public schools,
,then continuation school in
Goderich. In 1908, .'her family
moved to Alberta where she
taught school for many years.
It was here that she met her
husband, -D'o'nald Alpin
Mackinnon. After Mr. Mackin -
non's death in' 1950, Mrs.
Mackinnon `returned to
teaching near. Westlock,
Alberta. For the past few years
Mrs. Mackinnon had been
residing with her daughter in
Toronto.
She is survived by three
daughters and one son,
Christine, Toronto; Mrs.
George (Jean) Benson,
Kingston, Jamaica; Mrs. R,N.
(Margaret) Schultz, St. James,
Long Island; ando Donald, of
Beaverton. She was
predeceased by her two sisters
and one brother, Mrs. Robert
(Annie) Agar, Seaforth:
Georgina Hunt, Regina, 'Sask.
and David -Smyth, Victoria,
B.C.

at Kitchener -Waterloo Hospital
Sunday October 27. lie was. 79.
The late Mr. Beck was born
in Goderich and retired in 1964
as .master plurtiber at Bennett
and Wright, a life member of
United Association of Jour-
neymen and Apprentices of
Plumbing and Pipe 'Fitting In-
dustry of U.S, and Canada.
He is theson of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Beck;
husband, of the late Victoria
Mable Sched•ler who
predeceased him in 1968;
father of Edward .of Kingston,
Paul of Naussau Bay, Texas -
and Mrs. C.H. (Evelyn) Weir of
Waterloo; brother of Mrs.
FIoyd (Eva) Shaver, Miss
Elizabeth Beck and Mrs.
Howard (Jean McNee, all of
Goderich. He is alsot,survived
by two grandchildren and
predeceased by one brother
William. '
The body rested at the Ed-
ward R. Good Funeral Home,
in Waterloo, until 'Wednesday
when funeral services.were con-
ducted by Rev. -.Jack Peck at All.
Saints Anglican Church,'
Waterloo. 'Interment followed
in -Men -tory Gardens.
Volleyball starts soon

The Goderich' Township
Recreation Committee met
Wednesday, October 23, and +it
was decided that volleyball
registration would take place at
Holmesville Public School this
Saturday, Nov'. 9 at 9 a.m. with
• games to beplayed from 9:3Q to
10:30 a.m. All residents are
welcome: Basketball, floor
hockey, etc. are to follow in the .
\weeks to conne.
There was a further meeting
held at Alison Lobb's home on
Monday Nov. 4 where' it was
decided to charge a $1 for arts'
add crafts : registration, which
will be held on .Nov. 18 at 8:15
p.m: Persons are to bring odds
and. ends ,of' wool, and crochet
hooks and yarn will be
available.
Some of the instructors will
be Marion Powell, Hazel
McCreath, June Tomkins, Mrs.
Amsing, and Margaret Can-
telon: Also planned are flower
arranging and other aspects of
horticulture taught by Jean
•Barnett. Would anyone like a
seasonal Wilderness- survival
course?
'All the recreation activities
will be held at the Homesville
School except the outdoor.
sports such as hiking. Anyone
interested in that is to. contact

William was up north' hunting.

rally in Downsview last Friday
night. A bus left the Love farm
at Exeter ,loaded with Bestline
distributors and fun was had
by all.

spent the weekend at. Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Scheerer's home in,
Goderich, visiting with Pamela
and Greg. Ken trapped and
skinned raccoons.
Mr. and Mrs: Harold Yeo
and Rita attended Convocation
ceremonies at Sir Wilfrid -
Laurier University in Waterloo
last Sunday when Doug=Yeo of
RR 3, Clinton received his B.A.
Doug attended No. 9 Tipperary
Public School; Clinton 'High
School and Stratford Teachers
College.' He taught at
Holmesville Public for two
years and is presently on' staff
at Victoria Public School in
Goderich.

3, Clinton held a -successful
Bestline couples party on Oct:"
29 and contest prizes were won
by Harry Torrance and Pete

Sorry. to hear that Bill Smith
of RR 3, Clinton is a patient in
Clinton Hospital. We wish him

Huron Bishop
to attend
conference
The Right Reverend T.,
David Ragg, Bishop of the
Anglican Diocese of Huron, has
been chosen by the Primate of
All Canada, the Most Reverend
Edward W. Scott, to attend the
World Nod Conference to be
held in Rome November 5 to
16.
In 'a charge 'to the Synod of
Huron by the Bishop last May
he focused attention -on the in-
creasing abuse of prime farm
land in Western Ontario.
"The day could come," he
said, "when we,{an agricultural
area, will be seeking food, if we
continue -to let the farming
lands disappear on any con-
ceivable excuse at all be it
highway, sprawling sub-
divisions, ar corridors for hydro
power lines. As Christians, we
must have a concern for the
right use of all our resources."
The conference'. in Rome is
being called to discuss the
desperate food crisis that is
facing the world. Supplies,
methods of agriculture, and the
.development of new methods
among 4:5nerging nations, wr4l�.n
be among the topics discussed.
"It is a situation," Bishop
Ragg said, "that must involve •
the co-operation of the whole
world.' As a leading
agricultural country; Canada
must give a strong lead in this `
whole matter."
The Bishop will be one of
five Canadians • representing
non -Government organizations
at the conference. ."

ference" will he held at the
Skyline Hotel, Rexdale, on
' Decembe-r 17 and 18;
This is an' oliportunity for
beef cow -calf farmers to hear
top speakers from Ontario and
Alberta. Producers par-
ticipating will be Doug Maus,.,
LesAtkins, George Leslie, Fred
Cohoe,' Ross Proctor and -
others. They will discuss their
own production systems.

Winch, Dr: J.W. Wilton of the
University of Guelph, and Dr.
Roy Berg of the University of
Alberta will cover topics such
as "PasturesP„, "Bul'l' Selec-

Curtis of the Ontario
Veterinary College and others

.John P. Sullivan of Wildfiel"d
and formerly of Kingsbridge
was struck and killed by a car
in front of his hpme last Thur-
sday evening, October 31. Sin-
cere sympathy is extended to
his wife, the former Elizabeth
O'Neill and to his family.
Several from this area attended
the wake and the funeral which
was held in Wildfield on Mon-
day -morning at 11 o'clock.
Judge Carter of Goderich
was the special guest of the
Kingsbridge Youth Club . on
Sunday evening,.. October 27.
Judge Carter showed slides and
gave commentary on his trip to
the Holy Land. He was thanked
by Miss Margaret Frayne,
President of the Kingsbridge
Youth Club and was presented
with a gift.
Kindergarten, Grades 1, 2; 3,
and 4 pupils of St. Joseph's
school at Kingsbridge held a
Hallowe'en Party at the school
on Wednesday,• October 30.
Prizes were given for -the best
costumes.
The. 1st Kingsbridge Girl
Guide Company and Brownies
held' a Hallowe'en party in the
church basement on Saturday
afternoon, November 2. -
St. Columban Soccer teams
were bused 'Co St. Joseph's
school at Kingsbridge on Thur-
sday, October 31 where games
of Soccer were played.
