look for another acclamation
Colborne Township residents
stand a good chance of electing
a new council„ in the December
2 election vithout leaving the
comfort of their homes.
It appears that there is'little
bickering pertaining to the
council's performance in the
past on the intentions of future
councils, The series of ac-
clamations in the township in-
dicate either that the council is
a smooth running efficient body
or thatahe township people,
simply turn an apathetic •cheek
the other way.
Colborne township clerk,
Wilmer Hardy, hired by the
council on a yearly basis, has
received no indications that the
members of the present council
will not run and predicts a
council by acclamation.
He stated council has made a
number of accomplishments it+
• the past term in relation to
roads, drainage and develop-
• ment and there have been
literally no complaints voiced.
Mr. Hardy, stressed that the
, basic major issue or . project
confronting the future council
is the adoption of the official
secondary plan. The plan is in
effect an official plan zoning
bylaw which ° I5ouldliftthe
freeze on commercial develop-
ment presently in effect in the
township.
"We really have had no com-
plaints from the township and I
wouldn't be surprised if the
*lection was not contested," he
said. "I feel.I have something
.to offer or I wouldn't be on
council."
.Mr. MacPhee stated tha;,t the
official . plan, which involved
zoning and planning of town-
ship land would be the major
concern of the n-' . . ,,u►:
emphasized the need, for a plan,
in the township and indicated
that a series of workshops in-
volving the public would soon
be. conducted.
' "The secondary plan is,. the
main reason 1 am staying on,"
he said. "The decision made on
it in the next year will affect
people fol. 10-15 years and a
satisfactory plan for the
majority should be adopted,"
Mr. Kernighan would not be
surprised to see an acclamation
of 't•ouncil hut wonders if coun-
cil performed so admirably or if
it is simple the apathy of the
people. He cited the
nomination- procedure in the
township as a deterrent to
prospective councillors.
b n
He stated that council. has no -
real axes to grind •but that the
basic concerns of the people
must be maiitained.
DEPUTY REEVE,
NORMAN DURST
Norman Durst, deputy -reeve
designate, took over the
position early this year due to
the death of Ray Allen. Mr.
Durst will run in the upcoming
election but has not as yet
made a definite commitment to
the post which he now occupies.
He has definitely committed
himself to running in the elec-
tion but may not seek the post
of deputy -reeve. Mr. Durst
would. not be surprised if•coun-
cil was returned by ac-
clamation simply because of its
record in the preceeding term.
He cites the secondary plan
as -the major and only issue
facing . the new council and
other than that it will simply,
resume its .normal respon-
sibilities.°

WILLIAM BOGIE
William Bogie will he run-
ning for` hcis first term on town-
ship council and has full inten-
tions of ,seeing the official plan .-
through to its cornpletene'Sgs'lHe
also has suspicions that council
Will be acclaimed" because of its
'reputable' record during the last
term in. office.
For Mr. Bogie, .who joined
council after the, death •of Mr.
Allen, his experience on council
has been both' interesting and
challenging and4 he is looking
- forward to another term in of-
fice. He would like to see the
plan adopted as quickly as
possible to eliminate the freeze
in the township.

. DOUG McNEIL
Doug McNeil, reeve of the
township council, will again
toss ',his hat into the political
ring. Mr. McNeil anticipates .no
big problems or issues for the
potential council to face.
• "I think we have• had a good
local government that has ac-
complished considerable in the
past term", he said. "We sim-
ply work on a day to day basis
and make no real noise." •
Mr. McNeil reiterated the
fact that council, although
operating quietly; accomplished
.the basic mundane chores in an
efficient manner in the interest
of the township people.
COUNCILLORS
GRANT MacPHEE • •
Grant MacPheez, has ;served
on the council - for six years and
will seek his fourth term on
township council.in the Deem-.
her 2 election. Mr. MacPhee
has i also served on the -school
board stating that politics 'just
seems 'to .get in one's system.'
He believes that council has
used t'ommon sense 'and
reasoning in the past which'
may result in an uncontested
election.
