ATOM ALL-STARS
The Suncoast Suns . Atom
All. Stars didn't make the
same mistake twice when they
played. trhe first two games of
their W,D.A.A. regular
schedule last, weekend.
Playing here Saturd'ay
against Kincardine, the Suns
built up a ,four goal lead and
led the Beavers by a 4-1 count
at the end of two periods. It
seemed as though the Suns had
'the game well in hand but a lit
tle, let -down in skating in the
third period was all the
Beavers needed.. Kincardine
outscored Goderich 4-1 in the
final frame, with their last'
three ,goals coming in the final
two minutes to salvage a 5-5
- tie.
On Sunday the Suns played
in Port Elgin and held a '3-1
dat the end of two ' cried=.

This time the Suns kept on
coming, piling up three more
third period, goals to take a
convincing ,6 1 win over Port

while David Eastwood and
Brad Armstrong got single
goals. Graham and Eastwood

been playing right wing, was
moved to defence and put in a
strong performance.

when they play here against the
Suns at 6;00 .p.m.
Coach 'Richard Madge has
his team playing good hockey,
and the Sun..1 are worthy of
good support from local minor
hockey fans.
GODERICH
LIONS PEE WEES
Hockey is a team sport and
indeed . this young Goderich
club is making a team effort.
All of the boys are' skating
hard, each trying to keep up his
end to support his team-mates.
There are lots of mistakes,
some passes get fouled up and
some plays just don't go as -the
player planned, but team work,
good: fellowship anti happy
sportsmen are a large part of
what Minor ' hockey is all
about. There is a healthy por-
tion of each in the Lions
Hockey Team.
The Listowel game Friday
night was a little scrambled
...and quite slow on the soft ice
surface., The ha't trick was
credited to Larry Kelly while
Larry Madge and -'Robbie
Trebish ,earned two goals and
one assist each. One score each
was contributed by Robert
McDonald' and Willie
'Denomme as well as two assists
by McDonald • and one ' by
Denomme. Danny Maillet and
Mike Hodges each helped on
, one goal. Mike Hodges played a
strong defensive game and
Brian Shewfelt and Stephen
Gallow made some good saves
in net against , the Listowel
boys: The score was 9-5' for the
Goderich Lions.
Saturday night's home garne
for the, Goderich Pee Wees
, pr.oved" to be a better game to
see. It was a fastermoving
game on our arena's keen ice
surface.
Mike' Hodges, Danny Maillet,
Willie Denomme, Jeff Denomy
and Larry Madge contributed
one goal and .One assist each
while Robert McDonald and
Robbie Trebish helped -tm two
scores each. The final tally was
5-3in Goderich's favor.
. The Lions met with their
first defeat on Sunday *hen
they encountered the W,alker-
ton Pee Wees in exhibition,
play. The Walkerton boys inter-
cepted their passes and kept on
top of the play tll, roughtut the
game.

HOCKEY NOTES
Pee Wee House League
Division have two new spon-
sors. The Goderich, detachment
of the O.P.P.s, through the ef-
forts of Bill Wilson and
Sergeant Redpath, have
replaced Goderich Motors. The
other sponsor is Denomme
Flowers, who previously spon-
sored a team in the Bantam
Division. -This new team
replaces the Club Grill. We
wish the new sponsors success
for the coming years, and ap-
preciate their efforts and
generosity.
As a public service, it would'
„ be a great idea to see a
schedule of all events including
figure skating and public
skating in the paper each week.
I feel that the Recreation
Board, the Arena, or the Signal
Star, or perhaps a sponsor

Brown, Joe Klukay, Norm
Smith and Jimmy Peters are
other retired pros that left the
Red Wings for the more
demanding benefit' hockey
league. These players were the
only members of the Red Wing
team that our spy could reveal
to us' but he promises that he
will return to the Motor City to
find out more about the ever
elusive Re,d Wings and will
report to the paper next week.
Meanwhile the Leafs have
been adding 'a new dimension
to their game plan. After
hearing the news of Red Wing
player strength, Coach Ed. Byr-
ski immediately closed • his
team's practices and began, an
all out effort to strengthen his
offence.
The coach imported a Kin=
cardine cracker named John
Garton who works 'for the Kin-
cardine News and has played
against the Old Tiamers. •Garton
has been working out with the
Leafs for the past month and
now has thrown a new twist
into the team's attack that
won't be revealed until game,

The only hint Coach Byrski
would .give the newsmen is that
the three lines he is- using all
have an equal balance 'and all
have an equal chance of being

The. Newfie line that was so
.successful against CKNX last
year is back in action again and
promises to bring the fans to
their feet with their fast and ac-

The coach has worked with
several of .his skaters and
believes that his advice to the
players will be valuable.. .He
changed Lloyd "Cacklebury" •
Lounsbury's footwear from
wheels to blades and "Cask" is
three times faster this year
than last. Shortening -Bob
Shrie'r's skate blades. by three
feet has . turned .the
straightaway skater into a
highly, mobile ,centre.
• Tom Vanderburgh has a
•completely new uniform and a
new outlook on the game that
has a winning confidence. Paul
Steep is still throwing checks
like the one that rocked
Goderich Mayor Harry Worsell
in last' year's action.
Derinis • Vanderburgh has
