Family Benefits and General.
-** Welfare Assistance will be in-
creased.

revised allowance schedules
and increased earnings exemp-
tions will represent an`increase
of approximately 15 percent to
provincial expenditures under
Family Benefits and General
Welfare Assistance.
Affected will be 58,500
provincial Family Benefits
recipients and 45,G00 recipients •
;of provincial and municipal
General Welfare Assistance,
and their families. These in- •
elude mothers with dependent •
dchildren, dependents of GAINS
(Guaranteed Annual Income
Supplement) recipients,, aged
persons not eligible for. GAINS,
needy foster children and per-
sons unable to work.
Revised payment schedules
reflecting these changes in
, regulations will be effective Oc,•
• tober 1, 1974.
The Family Benefits and
General Welfare Assistance
rates were last increased in
January. and April, respec-
tively. increased benefits for
the blind and disabled were
made ' through the ' GATNS`T
„program, which became, effec-
tive last July .lst.

be increased to $100 per month
for families and $50 per month
for single persons. The further

ditional income 'continues:
Municipalities will be perniit-
ted and encouraged to provide
similar exemptions 'for. the
General Welfare Assistance
allowances.

hosting the 1974 Western On-
tario ,Winter . Games.. The
Games will involve 12 different
sports in competitive and`
demonstration settings. At. this
• time, it 'is estimated that a
minimum of 1,500 young men
and women will participate in
he var,ous sports: Those sports

basketball, boxing, broomball,
curling, fencing, judo, ringette,
speedskating (demonstration
only), volleyball, weightlifting,
- wrestling and bowling.

Winter -Games have been
designed so that' winners of

cluding ringette • and broom -
ball) will proceed to compete in
the Ontario Winter Games
which are being held in Thun-
der Bay, December 28 - 30,
1974.

industry,, construction work, domestic service, ambulance service,
funeral service', .including. students Arid learners.

-People employed- by agencies a's domestics, and people work
ing as funerardirectors or embalmers must.now be paid not less fhan
$2.25 an"hour. Learners -in General'lndustry must be paid at .least
