Once ,again it is Christmas
Country Fair time;, -.and sud-
denly it is later than you think.
This year the location will be
Saltford Valley Hall . and the
days - Wednesday, October 16
and Saturday, October 19, frtoni
11) a.M.. until 9 p.m.
This event has grown, each
year until, it has been crowded
right out of that nice old
Carlow Hall.
More and more craftspeople
have asked for space in which
to sell their wares and more
end more people have crowded'.
Onto the Hall to buy these goods
so that the Colborne ladies
were forced to rent the largest
hall in t.lib vicinity that, wa'g.
still in Colborne Township.
It was 'rather frightening at
the old' hall ,to have the place r
filled with shoppers" and see a
bus load of people come in. Of
course, things seem to work out
all right at such times, but they
finally had to admit they had
outgrown• their orntury old
building.
Altho' there will be more
• space in the Saltford Valley
Hall, there will also be more
-Craftspeople thePe, but being
all on one floor it will. be easier
to display the crafts and much
more aisle space for the shop-
pers.
The parking. will—also be
taken care of so more cars may
come in to park...
The decoration 'theme -
Nostalgia - will show the fine
drawings of Beryl Harper who -
is very good at this sort of th-
ing. Many will recall her'
background .work for the
I.O.D.E. ' and Fashion Show,
Centennial Year '67 and many
other large drawings she has
made of pioneer people and
historical things.
Also, .Florence Aberhart ,has
a series of paintings which are
nostalgic, indeed, and will
bring pleasure to many, many'
people. l '
;Also in this craft -painting - .
Jim Marlatt of the. Green
Gallery on St. Patrick Street
will show his work, the
Goderich Art Club will have a
-display, Agnes Moon, a
Colborne artist will also have a
display, and there are probably
many others' showing their
prints and paintings.
I believe there will be three
well known potters,'. Sheila
•.Gunbyand the Stewarts,
perhaps more. The 'last year or
so, -more and more people .are
=discovering the beauty of wood
and Jack's Wood Turnery of
Clinton and the Verkley Family ,
of Thedford are only two of the
groups with wood crafts to sell.

hundreds of candles and novel

Another group well known to
this area for their terrific. work
with flowers and weeds and
vegetables are Jean McKee,
Edna Shaw, Dorothy Feagan •
and Shirley Hazlitt. Their stall
i called' The Flower Pot and
besides the dried flowers and
weeds you can find interesting
shapes. and colours in gourds -
and probably other things.
These girls are very clever.
There will be more than one
showing of antiques and many
displays will have interesting
things out .of the past. All
nostalgia! , ,
One craft, that always
fascinates Me is the making of
rugs., There, are hooked rugs
braided rugs, some ' even
crocheted and knitted but the
ones I want to mention are,
those made - `I don't know
HOW they're made, but they
are roadie of binder or bailer
twine. This HAS to be the har-
dest, roughest material one
could ever use for a rug and
the rugs last' forever!
• Little Mrs. Robert Bean has
been making these rugs for
many, many years. She does
them in her spare time and it
takes at least a day - of `spare
time to make a door step sized
one this is probably over two
feet long.
The smaller ones she can
make- in an afternoon. This
could' be a gift that lasts for
,years! ..-
There are so many in-
teresting. things and people I
could tell you about, but'if you
arrange your tour so that you
can spend a little more time at
the booths that interest, you
most, you wilhcome away with
a great deal of satisfaction in
time well spent and it -might
even get YOU working with
hobbies you have ,been putting
off for years.
Goderich has several shops
where you can buy materials
for these , hobbies, so get to
them while you can still enjoy
them. •
Of course there -will 'be the'`
.baked goods available, althh
with the high' cost of sugar,
flour and everything, some
have been hesitant about
making things. But . I . still ex-
pect there will be "a " great
variety .of yummy • goodies 'for •
you to enjoy.
To change the subject - ate
you planning to 'attend 'the
musical concert at
next Wednesday?
The Schneider Male Chorus
has become quite famous for
their great evenings of enter-
tainment and the. ladies' of the

This will be a great waj' to
open ,the Goderich Theatre
season - "send them away
smiling and they're sure to
come back" - or words to that
effect. ,
Check the ,ad for phone num-
bers to call and since records
were lest in the big Barn fire it
'would help if you would con-

Think about it
When the surgeon does a cor-
neal transplant on the eye, he
uses tiny razor sharp needles to
cut out the defective part of the N
cornea, Using tissue from a
donor eye, he extracts a section
the exact shape and -size of, the ,
defective pieceand sews it into
the patient's cornea. More than
50,000 Canadians have pledged
their eyes through the Eye
Bank of Canada.
Thanksgiving Supper, a
program with locartalent and a
draw.
Now, the Brookside school is
half way between Dungannon„
and Lucknow - I have probably
seen it but never been there - ,
but,. 1know a couple of good
looking teachers there!
Anyway, you are sure to have
a great , supper and enjoyable
evening. 'See :the Bulletin
