Plowing Match will be held this
Saturday, Sept. 14 at the farm
of County ,Warden William.
Elston in Morris Township.
Coaching day will be the day
previous, Sept. 13. This year an
added attraction will be wood -
sawing contests with both,
chainsaws and crosscuts.
The annual Queen of v the,
Furrow contest is held at this
match, first prize for which .is a
leather jacket donated by Bain -
ton's original Old Mill. Girls
between the ages of 16 and 25

asked to give a short talk on
the subject "Five Organizations
. in Huron County and How
They Benefit the County".
The entrants are also
required to 'make a strike -out
and plow two rounds on their '
land. If contestants require a
tractor or plow they are asked

cess and to uphold Huron
County's reputation as -the ban-
ner province of .Ontario.

Land use figures
with food production
The Honourable William A.
Stewart, Minister of
Agriculture and Food,' has an-
nounced the formation of a new
Food Land Development
Branch. within the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food.
"This Branch will serve all
those matters within the
Ministry involving land use..It
will promote our policy, as a
Ministry, of retaining in food
production, wherever possible
and practical, agricultural
lands which have a . high
capability for this use," said
Mr. Stewart.
In •early 1974, an ad hoc
Food Lands Development Com-
mittee was established within
the Ministry to serve as an in-
terim voice during Government
discussions''` and planning
'decisions on land use. "It has
become .increasingly important
for the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food to have a
strong voice in the. land use
policies of the Ontario, Govern-
ment. TIf new Branch will
provide an effective and
tangible unit through which to
express public concerns on land-
use.'
In the 'development of the
;Ministry's land use program,
' members of the Branch will
.coordinate, develop and refine
its long-range land use policy
and °policy, alternatives. They
will also analyze land use
legislation and programs in
other jurisdictions with a view
to providing policy alternatives
