The Goderich Signal-Star, 1974-08-15, Page 1The dirty dog?. A letter pn official Ministry, of the Attorney General stationery written by"Nprma-.Haxlitt of the local registrar's of- fice in the court house, arrived before Goderich Town Council 'last week. It complained about pet owners who walk their dogs in Court House Park Land leave the animal's jobs' behind to ,trap people who also walk there. The letter stated: Dear Sir: . "For the last few years, I have noticed from my office, how the Court House Park is being ,used by some of the Citizens of the Town „as well as many tourists to Walk their dogs for exer- cise as well as answer the call of nature. This does not seem to be, the most fitting place for these animals to be allowed -by their masters for this purpose, "The Town of Goderich should be proludenough of the Court House Park, which is the centre of the Town, to have it kept as a Park should be, clean and tidy; if not just for the appearance to the public then .consider the many citizens who make use of the 'park, especially the senior citizens. "I have had to 'clean the "shoes' more than once, after, walking to my car which is often parked on the inside of the square and it'is'about time your Council considered passing a bylaw to have signs posted prohibiting pets froom this park. •"Ihave heard of othersduring the recent Summerfest who had the ,same misfortunes while walking through the park. Have you? "Hope this matter will be discussed at a Council meeting and put ,into effect." A With a slight grin and a mischievous look in his eye, Coun- cillor Bill Clifford moved that the matter be left in the hands of the Parks Chairman Leroy Harrison with power to act. .,q Councillor Harrison made a quiek statement.. "Parks are for people, for walking in, for tramping in, for cycling in, for walking their dogsin," stated Harrison. "I don't know how you stop the call of nature but people should take their own crap '11.ome with them." He sarifi that in the past, he has asked pet owners to clean up aftertheir animals and has had few problem's since. last pets, according to Councillor Harrison, should be a • last resort. He -promised Ito look into the matter upon his return from vacation. 4 o, CP County rejects Mustard report . - -''*° health policies in' the province.
