Hi .Everyone! Guess you're wondering whaes been hap-
pening with Ooderich United these past couple of weeks.
Well, the boyshad a week's rest and another of training.
StindaY's game in Ingersoll didn't show that we've been
training. because welost 2-1 to the Flyers. Can't tell you how
bad we felt. It sure looked as if we had the game locked up,
but it just gobs ea-stiow yOu that nothing in lifepis a certainty!
The first half started with fireworks as Brian Allen _star-
ted the ball rolling (pun) .and "whoniped" in, a terrific
looking, fast goal. It was a beaut and that's411 we needed to
get the action going!
Both teadis kept up a fast pace, checking and covering
their men. The passing was great in this half. (Uniteds
passing, of. course!
Dan McCallum was readly onto the ball and got a few
shots On goal that didn't connect but nevertheless were good
tries. There were afew warnings for both sides from the
cy referee as things got a little hot!
The' whistle ended the first 45 minutes and Goderich. felt
pretty secure. But the last half really fizzled out for the
United team. Dave Graf came on strnng, but to no avail.
Tony Van Dongen, asever,.was a forceful personality out'
on the field!! The action continued at a fast pace with plenty
of shots on goal for Goderieh but no connections! Wayne
Sheardown and Brian Allen ma,naged to shqbt in a good
one, bitti-it was called' against us. (And don't 'ask me why -
I'm not technically incliged!!) Great try anyway, guys!
The last minutes of the, game Were fast approaching when
Ingersoll finally got a breakthrough and scored' a point.
Earlier, they;..d gotten a chance for a penalty kick and
goofed it; so they. were, determined to make it up! It's also a
good thing they haven't got_ John Gottschalk on their team;
he never misses!
With only one, goal left to better us, Ingersoll took advan-
tage of an opportunity afforded them ,and shot in another
goal to leave the game solidly theirs'at 2-1.
Goalie Carl Moller seemed taken by surprise, as did a few
of our boys. They all looked ,as if -they expected the next guy
to cover, so as -a result, nothing was done! That was a
needless goal. So, folks, we've got a dejected bunch of guys
this 'week! Fight! ,Fight! Fight! Goderich United, we're
behind yob one, hundred percent!
A well-deserved applaud goes to Howie Gottschalk and
brother Rolf for a beautifully played match. (Howie was un-
believable and a joy to -behold!!) Brian Allen gets my player -
of -the -day award! I tell you that guy is.a. powerhouse! He
neter quits!`Danger Man" is.gonna get some shots on goal in-
stead of passing. Riglit, guy??
Thanks for coming out, fans! You're an "all right" group!
• A special mention here for, "the rookie' ", Iain Lambert who
was injured in practice last week. Get well, soon guy! We
missed your cheerful° face at the game! .
See you all next week in Seaforth?? The game starts at
-2:00 p.m. and it's only a hop, skip and jump awa"y;o please,
• people come out and join us in the cheering section! Our
head cheerleader, Wanda, will appreciate the extra noise!!
`Til next time, God bless, keep fit, stay happy. United we
stand - Divided we fall!
Love ya,.
