more space to be sure but that

the company's progress in
recenf months. He cites the ex-
tra unit for the press, th,e new
updated typesetting equipment
- and of course, the new building
as the ,most important steps
. toward continued success.
"The move into the new
building has put us in a
position to expand our
'horizons", he said. "I have no
doubt there will be continued
progress in the years to come."
One of the main con'.cern:s for
Signal -Star Publishing Limited,
is ever increasing 'costs.
"We're at the mercy of sup-
pliers", Tom feels. "In many
instances, our suppliers will not
quote prices when we order the
materials. They will only give
us the cost on the day the items
are 'shipped,"
Newsprint is one example of
the way in which costs have
spiralled since he . joined the
Signal staff. It was $143 a ton
in 1971 and has , continually
climbed until now it is $198 a
ton.
"And it will probably go
higher", Tom predicts. "It
makes it difficult to project a
budget."
Nevertheless, newspapering
is an exciting field for Tom
Flynn.
"The whole newspaper
fraternity is a close knit group-
and
roupand barring a few exceptions, is
not the cut-throat group you'll
see in .modern business",- he
stated. "I'm happy to be part of
it."
was built. The old files still
remain in storage at the court
house for the present, but there
are plans to bring there home,
Just as soon as satisfactory
arrangements can ,be made,
students will be hired to sort
through the old...files now in
storage. The loose _sheets will
• be put in order of months and
years and, lovingly bound' for
preservation, Then they will be
. placed in their own special
slots in the Signal -Star 'old
files' cupboard to tell their
story to the world. .
.. Hopefully by the time
another year rolls around, the
.old files will be as c'mptete as
it is possible td m ke them.
They will be neat' a d useable
again - and at this point the
public will "be, encouraged to
consider the old files a valid,
source of reference for many,
many.. projects.
There's little doubt the old
fills will be eyven more ap-
preciated by the pub sic in their
newlocation. Everyso .often,
letters and telephone calls are
received asking for information
about so.m.e area native
perhaps, who died in 1878 and
whose obituary appeared in
the local papers of that era.
Family histories are always
being, completed!
Summer always sees a steady
stream of vacationers who are
researching this and that from
the past! School terms bring 'an
avalanche of students from '
universities all over the country
who are searching out details
'about those bygone eras.
Perhaps one of t'he most
Widely researched topic in
recent years has been the
Stephen Truscott case. That
trial in Huron has gone 'town
as one of the most controversial
and disputed episodes in local
history.
Yes,' the old files are
valuable as an accurate, on -
the -spot source of historical
data. It will be a proud, day
when these precious old
manuscripts are once more
housed under the Signal -Star
roof to take their place of honor
for all to pay homage.
