One of the main con'.cern:s for Signal -Star Publishing Limited, is ever increasing 'costs. "We're at the mercy of sup- pliers", Tom feels. "In many instances, our suppliers will not quote prices when we order the materials. They will only give us the cost on the day the items are 'shipped," Newsprint is one example of the way in which costs have spiralled since he . joined the Signal staff. It was $143 a ton in 1971 and has , continually climbed until now it is $198 a ton. "And it will probably go higher", Tom predicts. "It makes it difficult to project a budget." Nevertheless, newspapering is an exciting field for Tom Flynn. "The whole newspaper fraternity is a close knit group- and roupand barring a few exceptions, is not the cut-throat group you'll see in .modern business",- he stated. "I'm happy to be part of it." was built. They will be neat' a d useable again - and at this point the public will "be, encouraged to consider the old files a valid, source of reference for many, many.. projects. There's little doubt the old fills will be eyven more ap- preciated by the pub sic in their newlocation. Everyso .often, letters and telephone calls are received asking for information about so.m.e area native perhaps, who died in 1878 and whose obituary appeared in the local papers of that era. Family histories are always being, completed! Summer always sees a steady stream of vacationers who are researching this and that from the past! School terms bring 'an avalanche of students from ' universities all over the country who are searching out details 'about those bygone eras. Perhaps one of t'he most Widely researched topic in recent years has been the Stephen Truscott case. That trial in Huron has gone 'town as one of the most controversial and disputed episodes in local history. Yes,' the old files are valuable as an accurate, on - the -spot source of historical data.
