(News -Record photo) News -Record still gives service after 109 years The Clinton News -Record was the second paper to come into the Signal -Star `fold. In- creasing costs, and outdated equipment forced former publisher A.. L. Colquhoun to sell the News -Record in 1967, and the Signal -Star ; began publishing it on July t,, 1967, As one of the oldest papers in Huron County, at 109 years of age, the News -Record is run from its own separate office in Clinton, and has complete in- dependence of the Signal -Star in editorial operations, ' vsomething the parent plant •has always strived for since the takeover'eight years, -ago. However, all of the typeset- ting, paste-up a.nd , printing of the News -Record is done from the Goderich plant, a plan that has meant big savings in terms of .manpower and equipment costs. ° After the News -Record was purchased in 1967, it was coni- verted from • letter press to photo offset printing,, a conver- sion that has meant more' flexibility in page make-up and printing, and speeded up its production. Also in 1967; the News -Record t was separated from the job printing business formerly owned by Mr. Colquhoun, and the Clinton Commercial . printers, now un- der new ownership, is com- pletely separated from the newspaper business. In November of 1971, the News -Record purchased the former Ontario Hydro office building at 53 Albert Street in Clinton and converted it into editorial, advertising and • general office use. The office is under the guidance of General Manager J. Howard' Aitken of Goderich, who also is the newspaper's ad- vertising salesman. The editor is Jim Fitzgerald who lives in' Clinton and owns a home there with his wife Lois. Peggy Gibb of Clinton isq• the, bookkeeper and writes a weekly column for, the paper.
