The 74th District Annual of
Huron W"est Women's In-
stitutes was held lilt Belgrave
United Church with the
president, Mrs. Donald Haines .
of Auburn in charge.
Mrs. Stanley Hopper,
president of Belgray.e W.I.
welcomed all',and the minutes
were approved as read by the
secretary, Mrs. Graham McNee
of Dungannon. She gave the
financial statement showing a
balance of $288.37,
There are 433 members in
the.If branches and they raised
$16,236.29 during the past yeax
leaving a balance in the Bran-
- ches of $5,016.43.' Mrs. Robert
Wilson of Goderichgave the
auditor's report, President Mrs.
Haines gave a short address' on
"What does the Women's In-
stitute mean to you?" A contest
on the handbook was given by
Mrs. 'Thomas Haggitt, -
president of Auburn, W.I. and
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock.
Mrs. Gordon Papple of
Seaforth, provincial board
director, ratified the District
Directors. They were Mrs.
Donald Cartwright, Auburn,
Mrs. Norman Coultes,
Belgrave;' Mrs. Charles John-
ston, Blyth; Mrs.'John Banter,
' oderich Township; Mrs. Eric
Anderson, , Londesboro; M 's.
William"Holland, Clinton; Mrs.

An impressive 'Pennies for
Friendship service was conduc-
ted by Mrs. Allin Yeates and
Mrs.- , Bert McCreath of
Goderich Township Branch.
The treasurers presenting the
pennies and placing the flags of
different nations were Mrs.
Donald Haines; Auburn; Mrs.
Ross Higgins, Belgrave; Mrs.
Luella McGowan, Blyth; Mrs.
Mervyn 'Batkin, Clinton; Mrs.
Harry Girvin, Dungannon;
Mrs. Elizabeth Sitter,
Goderich; Mrs. William Porter,
Goderich Township; Mrs. Har-
vey Taylor, Londesboro; Mrs.
'Ross Gammie, St. Helens; Mrs.
Gordon 'Kaitting, Tiger
Dunlop; Mrs. Les •Jacklin,
Wingham. The pennies amoun-
ted to $123.24, and 'has been
forwarded ti Associated Coun-
try Women of the ,World

Mrs. Gordon Papple of
Seaforth gave her report of the
work done gat the Federated
Women's Institutes of Ontario,.
She reported on the letter sent
to Hon. Robert Andras on the
immigration laws, the metric
system and also the resolutions
pertaining to the'abortion laws,
.She asked each branch to make
• two quilt blocks 12" by 12"
.. one for the Science centre at
-Toronto.and,one for the Erland
Lee Horne at Stoney Creek.
Miss .Jane Pengillev, home
economist for. Huron reported
that 1100 girls completed
project "Take a Look at Your-
self" with .102 clubs involved.
She also spoke on the senior
program, "More Ideas ,about
Knits" and urged all to take
part in the nutrition, workshops
-this fall.•
Mrs. Wilfred Colrlough, Clin-
ton, convener of resolutions
read 'the resolutions and these -
were voted on at the afternoon
session. Highlights of • the Of-
ficer's Conference were given
hv the delegates from the Bran-'
rhes,
Dinner was served in the
Women's Institute"hall where
the Tweedsmuir history books
were also on display. Mrs. Ivan
Wightman of Belgrave in-
troduced the head table which
included Mrs. • Wallace
Laidlaw, first vice-president of
London Area; Mrs. Gordon
Elliott, Seaforth; Mrs. Harold -
Wallace, Clifcf'ord; Mrs. Donald
Haines, president Huron West;
Mrs. Graham McNee, Dungan-
non, secretary -treasurer; Mrs.

with the convention song and a
musical skit, "Health is
Wealth" with Mrs, Gordon
Kaitting as comentator.•• Those
ladies from Tiger Dunlop
Branch taking part along with
Mrs. Kaitting were Mrs.
Terrence Hunter, Mrs. James
Horton, Mrs. Richard
4aichanan, Mrs. Earl Sher-
wood, Mrs. Douglas McNeil
and Mrs. William Clifford.
Mrs. Harm Klo,eze accom-'
panied, on her accordion.. Thin
song. was composed by Mrs.
Sherwood.
Mrs. "Thomas Allen of Lon-
desboro led a sing -song accom-
panying herself on her accor-
dion. Highlights of th'e past
year were • given , by the past
presidents showing all Bran-
ches were very busy and
working hard for the W.I.
Motto, For Home and Country.
A memorial service was con-
ducted by the Wingham Branch
and those remembered were
Auburn- Mrs. Major
Youngblut; Goderich - Mrs:
George Mumby, Mrs. John
Marwick, Mrs, Dave McMillan,
Mrs. George Procter; and
Wingham - Mrs. Norman
Keating, Mrs. Chris Tofling.
Guest' speaker, Mrs. Stanley
Bride of Fordwich was in-•
troduced by Mrs. Eleanor
Bradnock. She brought
greetings from Miss Helen
McKercher and Mrs. Bernice
Noblitt, 'president of F.W.I.O.
She spoke on the United
Nations of which she served on
the Federated Women's In-
stitutes of Canada 'as secretary.
Mrs. Stanley told how it all
tied in with A.CW.W. around
the world. She urged all bran-
ches to study Australia as
A.C.W.W. holds its Treinniel
conference there this October.
She also spoke on Human
Rights, U.N.I.C.E.F. and
U.NE,S,C.O. and how all these
organizations tie in with
Women's Institute ,work,.
around the world.
Mrs. .John Banter of
Goderich Township thanked
Mrs. Bride for her. informative
message. -
Cbollection was received by
Mrs. John Hesselwood and
Mrs. Luella McGowan of Blyth.

Mrs. Colclough read the
resolutions which are .as
follows: 4.
-1. Whereas staples are being
used in the packing of food
products and whereas/ these
staples could be consumed ac-
cidently (for example 'staples
closingcandy bags, vegetables
etc.) be it resolved that the
.Women's Institutes take steps
to have the use of staples aban-
doned from the packaging of
food products!
-'2. Whereas a local chain
store, advertised fish on a
special, but the fish was un-
frozen on the counter; whereas
we are concerned as to it'heing
harmful to'- refreeze fish and
meats of tler it has been thawed; -
therefore be it resolved that,
these packages of food that has
been frozen and thawed should
have some sort of warning so
that people do -not put this food
again in the freezer.
These two resolutions were
carried and will he sent on to
Area W.L's They were sent in
by Tiger Dunlop W.I..
The resolution asking for
road signs telling about the
hidden intersection wherethe
road to Meneset and airport
meet Highwav,21 was ;Lost as
already Mr. Murray Gaunt
'M.P.P. has advised them that
action. 'is being taken to .erect
the'. proper signs. -
The resolution from.
Wingham branch asking that
students selling shoes in a shbe
store should have proper
training in fitting shoes was
lost as .well 'd
Members.w decided to leave
the bursary fd' another year
and pay 25 cents per member
for District funds. They will
again sponsor a child which
amounts to :3:3c per member
Each hranCh is to have an ar-
ticle for the craft table worth
$3.00 and give it to the District
President. -

was accepted.

ficers. Mrs. Norrrian Coultes. of
Belgrave'-gave the report of the
nominating committee. The of-

nybrook United Church Women
was held Wednesday night,
•June 5 at the home of Mrs. H.
-Jefferson.
•Mrs. Wm. Hardy led the
meeting with "Gpd's Garden"
as the theme. The scripture was
read by -Joan Armstrong.
Mrs. Hardy read .the
medititation 'on gardens. Each
vice-prerrdent, Mrs. Graham `
McNee. Dungannon; secretarv-
trea'urer. Mrs Richard
Member had a reading on
Father's Day followed by .the,...
offering and prayer.
Mrs. E. Robinson took the
topic -Adventures in a Gar-
den" comparing a garden with
everyday life.
