Wes Bradnotk 5264595 HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY An executive meeting or the Auburn Horticultural Society was held in the library room last Monday evening with nine metnbers present. President •Mrs. Kenneth Scott presided and the minutes of the previous meeting were adopted as read by the secretary, Mrs. Beth Lansing. The annual convention .of the Horticultural Societies is to be held in Niagara Falls on June 12 to 14th and it is hoped that someone 'will be'able to attend. Plans were made for a floral tea and miscellaneous sale on Wednesday, July 3 from 230 p.m. to 4;30 p.m. in the Auburn Community Memorial hall. Sale table is to be in the charge of Mrs. Celia Taylor, Mrs. Beth Lansing, Mrs, Elmer Trammel- and Mrs. Ross Robinson; lunch tables, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt, Mrs. Frances Clark, Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs. FranIt Raithby and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. It was decided to invite Mrs. William Klie, ,district director/ to the September meeting. UCW The general meeting of the United Church.Women of Knox United 4,Cburch, Auburn, was held in the Sunday School. room of the church with Unit Two in charge. President Mrs. Gerald McDowell had charge of the business part of the meeting which she opened by reading a poem. Treasurer Mrs. -Norman McDowell gave the financial statement which was adopted as read. Mrs. Ted Mills 'Acted as secretary in the absence of the secretary, Mrs. Beth Lansing. Thank-yoU letters were read from those receiving Easter treats. Also a letter of thanks was ,received from the Scott mission at Toronto for, a bale which' was sent recently. Jt wa4ecided that the Christian Education Commit- tee look after getting girls to at- tend Alma College summer school in August. The bus. trip to Five Oaks on June, 19 was discussed.' Mem; bers Wishing toes go must have their names to the Cattiniittee by June 10th. . Mrs. Brian Hallam and Mr John Durnin were in charge of the remainder of the meeting. Mrs. Hallam chose as her theme "Walk," for which she read some appropriate verses. The scripture lesson wa,s read by Mrs. John Durnin followed by meditation and prayer by Mrs, Hallam. ,Of- fering was received by Mrs. Robert Arthur and Mrs. Ernest Durnin and dedicated with prayer: Mrs. Arnold Cook introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. R. McCallum of Goderich. She chose as her topic, "Citizenship of New Canadians.' This was found to be, interesting and in- formative. Mrs. Gerald McDowell thanked Mrs. McCallum and presented her with a gift. " COMMUNITY NEWS The Auburn librarian, Miss Lorraine Chamney requests .all' County books be in by .June 8th. We are sorry to report that Mrs:' Robert Phillips is a patient in Room 8N24 in University Hospital London, Vere Bokinger , and Mrs. Edna Greinson of Detroit and Mrs. Luella Phillips of Mitchell visited last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Allen. Mrs. William T. Robinson of Owen Sound visited last Thur- sday with Mrs. Albert McFarlane'and other friends in the village. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley McNall of Welland -spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Migs Laura Phillips. You might say fairways 8 and 9 have had a hard time keeping „its head'above Water, Now you've heard the bad news. The gobd-news is that the valiant directors have. put,. chased new fairway - mowers and a green mower. Charlie has seeded and patched up the bot- tle scarred fairways as best he could. Howie attended school in Goderich, worked in Stratford for a -time and eventually came home to take a job with Dominion Roads Machinery. „ This handsome fella is 24 years old and unattached. (Got • .that, girls?4. lie enjoys driving around the Square for relaxation (that's relaxing??!!) • Howie is admired by every 'team member for' 'his "sporting" attitude to the game of soccer and his enduring performance. Sailing club holds season's first race Sunday's race for the Goderich Sailing Club started out well with 14 boats entered. The weather was fair with a 5-6 knot breeze. However at about the' half way mark the breeze , dropped. Only one boat, Anore, skip- ' pered by George Robertson, finished within the three hour time limit -as set • by the club. Anore cOmpleted the course, in r65.6 'tninut& actual time. boats finish. within 'three hours:. • The regular monthly meeting " will be held at Snug Harbor at 8 p4m. Thursday, June" 6. This meeting will take the form of a hat dog barbecue. Each family . is asked to bring their own hot dogs. Coffee will be provided.
