Huron
riders ride
over Riley's range
Twenty-two. horses and
riders took part in the Huron
Trail Riders Saddle Club's first
trail ride' of the ",74 season.
the riders left at 1:00 o'clock
from Doug Riley's farm just
north of Seaforth.
The rainfall didn't dampen
the enthusiasm of the riders,
but the horses were quite
willing to return 'to drier quar-
ters,
A special welcome was exten-
ded to the riders present frorn
the Stratford and District Sad-
dle . Club.
After the ride, thirty-seven
Club members enjoyed 'a hearty
_...meal of scalloped ,potatoes,
baked beans, cabbage •. salad»
and cooked ham.
The club's president, Doug
Riley, ,thanked everyone for
' turning out on such a wet day.
Next rrkonth's trail ride will
• be held in the Hullett Conser-
vation Area, : north!west of.

PHILIP J. McCARTH,Y
Philip J. McCarthy, Selkirk,
Manitoba, died March 24' at
the Selkirk General Hospital.
He was 88.
Mr. McCarthy was born at
Kingsbridge, the second son of
Mr. Florence and Mary
(Austin) McCarthy. He went to
Manitoba in 1906 where he far-
med . before the First World
War when 'he served overseas
with the Canadian Forces.
He had been, a resident of
Selkirk since 1921, providing a
veterinary service in Selkirk
and district. He wits an
honorary member of the Cat-
,,tleman's' Association of
,Manitoba.
Mr. McCarthy had not been
back to Ontario until August
22, 1966 when he paid a 'short
visit to his sister, Mrs.
Elizabeth Dalton •of RR 1,
Lucknow.
' He was predeceased by phis
wife Anna in 1960. Survivors
include four daughters, Mrs. J.
K. (Florence) Polson of- Win-
nipeg; Mrs. Les (Glenna) Ben-
