The word of God tells us very
plainly that the last days.."Will
bedays of great deception"
(2nd Timothy 3-13). And, there
is no doubt that -we are living
in ,the last ° days, as 'Jesus
wayns 'us in His, discourse
found in Matthew 4;
There arethose who deny the
Easter story of the -,Crucifixion
of„Christ, and His Glorious
Resurrection. The resurrection
• of Jesus Christ is the most int,
portant event of all time. Apart
om it, every.assurance offered
in ..t Christian Gospel •is only
an empty wish. Without the
resurrection, 'every. hope for
this, 'and the' life: to come, is W
9nly pie in the sky. By and by,
unless Christ is risen from the
dead, He is no different, from
any other man whc has foun-
ded a religion. .
The resurrection is not only
basic to the Christian faith, but
also •to the Christian's faith; I
remember many years ago
bearing a preacher sair,
"Without Bethlehem, there
would be no Calvary, and
without Calvary, there would
be no resurrection.”
What • then is the Easter
message all about? Simply this,
that God was in Christ, recon-
ciling the world unto Himself.
For alW°rhae sinned and come

Jesus says-, "If we try to enter
Heaven some other way, we are
thieves and. robbers.
"It is almost two thousand
years ago that Christ died upon
the cross,' but rose victorious
from the grave, this message
has been proclaimed by the
Christian •church ever since.
Millions have died believing'in
Christ, and are now waiting urt-
til Christ : returns, for His
Church, when the dead (in.
Christ) shall rise first, 'and we
who are : alive and remain •
e (trusting in Jesus) shall be
caught upto meet them and so
shall re forever with the Lord.
(1st Thessalonians 4. 16-17)
It is now Easter 1974, And
Jesus says "Behold I stand at
the door and knock, if any man
hear my voice and 'will open the
door, I. will come in and sup
with him." Revelation :3: '20.
Christ is calli`rig' to us all°
During this Easter „season,. are'
we listening? What about days
of deception? 'There are those
who deny God's word, concer-
ning the Crucifixion, Resurrec-
tion, and Eternal Life, by
saying "God is a God of love"
and would never punish people;
but God, is also a God of justice,
and not willing that any should
perish. But if we reject His of:,

We've just received a letter
from a principal• of a children's;
home in India which houses
and educatest, several hundred
children with the aid of?spon-

British Isles. '
As these children graduate
they move from the sc'rool into
society and make room ' for
other youngsters waiting' to
gain entrance. '
In his letter the principal
tells about 'Agoing : to Shillong
and Calcutta to face the

"It is only after such an ex-
perience," he continues, "that
one becomes aware of the enor-
mity of the problem and how
very fortunate children (and
parents) are in countries where
rr the opportunities for education
are taken so•much for granted.
. The gentleman is certainly
right whet the says we take
education lightly'here. There is
virtually .rex-young person
living in Canada who cannot

that many Canadian

or all of these things. -
'Yet, there will surely be a
day of reckoning.
You remember the ' story
Jesus told of the rich man and
Lazarus. The former lived, in
luxury, dressed' ' in eicpensive
Clothes and ate gourmet food
every day...a •picture of in-
dolence ' and self-indulgence.
Lazarus was a poor, sick beggar
who kept himself aii've by
eating the crusts that fell' from,
the rich man's table. .
.Jesus ,yvent on' to say that
when the poor man died he was
•carried to , glory -while the
wealthy man went to hell and
torment. •Now, what what was the sin of the
rich man that he deserved such
a fate? Was he deliberately'
cruel .to' Lazarus? Apparently'
' not, ' for Jesus makes no men-,
tion of him.abusing the''n'ran or
even ob1ecting to him lying at
his gate and picking up 'what
was thrown from the.'ta&le.
The sin of the Rioh,I Man was
that-.- he never even noticed
Lazarus; that he -accepted hi(n
as part of the landscape, and
apparently thought it was per-
fectly natural and inevitable
that Lazarus should be in pain
and hunger while he wallowed
in luxury. -
Today, the sin of many of tis
is that we can' look on the'
world's suffering' and need, aril

hearts. We can took at-ns.tr-

distress, vet see no reason-• to
help him.
Wealth is not in' itself a sin,
but it is a ,responsibility. We
would do well to remember
that what we have on this 'earth
is really only lent t71'ua. There's
no way we can take it with us
when we die. •

A modern writer puts it this
way: "The business of husband
and wife is not to "have it out"
nor, to ."get some things
straight". ,The big idea is 'to
make the other person feel like
.L royalty. The whole art of
lovemaking is based on this.
The home opens her treasures
only in an- atmosphere of
mutual trust and • imaginative
vgoodwill. Love takes two. people
trying to outdo each other in
the first good word for the
other in front of others. Love is
the determination to look at
the bright side of the .most
depressing hat or casserole; of
clearing with each other on the
overtime away' from home; of
standing in each .other's shoes
. long et,ough to be sure when to
spring the right surpxise (D.A.
Redding, The •New Jm.-
tnorality.p.44).
When these things are
heeded, marriage becomes not
the end of love but the begirt -r'
ning of it... love. thatwi.th the
passing years becomes more
full, more satisfying, and more
profound... love that' after 45
years will still gladly say, "I am
delighted tobe responsible".
