THE WILLIAMS MURDER. a,
A Neighbor who Seems to Have N'o Doubt
as to 113aoWiierre11'e Guilt.
TORONTO, Jan,'. 8. ---William Moody, who
has had a good deal to say hi connection
with the Middle road tragedy, wandered
into the city on Saturday. Moody has
given out several theories, all his own, rm
lating to the perpetration of the deed, and
is evidently taking unusual intereab, in the
progress of the inquest, as it is said that
he came to the city' for the purpose of
keeping an appointment with Detective
Greer.
To a reporter Moody said that the mur-
der was still exciting considerable Dom
ment in the city. He was asked if he
thobttht MaoWlierrell was the guilty one,
and replied, " If: they have not the guilty
man now they never will have."
The idea seems to be in some quarters
that IsfeeWherrell will be able to clear him-
self of the charge. Certain it is, however
,thab the wholesale opinions expressed
freely by irresponsible parties as to the
'guilt of the aooused will not tend to lighten
his task of proving his innocence, if inno-

SUMMONING NEW WITNESSES.
The New Evidence in the Hooper Trial
Stronger Than the Old.
OTTAWA, Jan. 8.—Detective. Silas Car-
penter was in the city Saturday getting
evidence for the Hooper trial. He has
subpoenaed Miss Stapley, to whom Hooper
entered into a marriage engagement; Dr.
Cousins, who wrote out for Hooper an.
order for prussic aoid ; Mr. Henry Waters,
druggist, who sold" the prescription, and
also George De Longe, of S. Roger & Co.'s
undertaking establishment, who sold
Hooper a quantity „4t embalming fluid.
These witnesses were taken to Joliette to
give evidence in the trial.
Detective Carpenter believes that the
trial will not
be
concluded beforea week
or probably ten days. The new evidence
against the accused is, he says, stronger
than the old.
Miss Sarah Stewart, of Bristol, with
whom Hooper kept company for some
time, and to whom healso stated that his
wife was dead, it is probable, will also so•
company the Ottawa witnesses to Joliette.
They Wanted to Murder.

New Years came in bright and clear,

Tho people came out in good cheer,
Looked like the dawn of better days.
The town forosooth was all awake,

For they had much thatlaid at stake,
And there was notime to fool away

Although others may imitate ;our
goods, it is only for a day. We keep
continually changing and getting the
prices down.
We lead, others follow, but we have
led the most of them too far. We are
now in the very depths of low prices
and our companions are few and far be-
tween.
We will not be undersold %n .Parlor.

The usual wayis for the merchant
to make a profit on each sale. We will
turn the tables. Each sale now is a
profit for the buyer instead of the seller.
We want the money oven at the sacri-
fice of profit. Here is the result—
the prides tell the story better than
words.
