nual meeting in Clinton. The
meeting marked the . first time
in nearly 30 years- that the
Huron= provincial PCsohaven't
bad a sitting member in the
Ontario Legislature. The riding
was taken by Liberal Jcck Rid-
dell last March in a by-election.
A plumbing -inspection hylaw
to. cover the whole of Huron
County is closer to reality this
week after Huron County
Council last week in Goderich
gave approval to the -Board. of
Health report which indicated
the intention of that committee
to that end. Board of Health
Chairman Gerry Ginn, deputy -
reeve. of Goderich Township ex-
plained "We are not going to
ask for decision today. We are
still open for suggestions but`
decision must be reached by the
end of the year so it can be in-
cluded in the budget".
George Parsons, president of
the Goderich' Elevator and
Transit Company Limited, an-
'nounced yesterday that • the
company has successfully
negotiated the purchase' of Up-
per Lakes Shipping Limited
facilities at Goderich.

This Sunday members of
Branch 109 of the Royal
Canadian Legion (Goderich)
will. mark the annual Remem-
brance Day with a church
parade to North Street United
Church and the Court House
Park Cenotaph. The veterans
and Legionnaires will march to
the church service which will be
conducted, in part, by Canon K.
E. Taylor' of London. Canon
Taylor is the former Chief
Protestant Padre of Canadian
Forces serving in Europe
during the Second World War.
Developments over the past
week seem to indicate that the
winter. of 1973-74 may be expen-
sive for those Godejich
residents who want to keep

Last Wednesday's Court of
Revision to discuss the
assessments for the proposed
South Storm Sewer was adjour-
ned • for three weeks until
November L28 to allow time for
a ruling by the Drainage
Referee Judge Syd Clunis of
Windsor. The adjournament
came when lawyer Robert
Campbell of Goodall and Cam-
pbell in Wingham told the
court the drainage works as
proposed by the Town of
Goderich do not comply with
the provisions of the Drainage
Actand that the assessments
against the land are illegal and
excessive.
When Animal Control Officer
Dick Eisler visited Town Coun-
cil last Thursday evening, he
had an unusual call to report.-

fullback Joe O'Keefe, described
by coach Ray Donnelly as one
of the most outstanding run-
ners ever to play in the Huron -
Perth conference, carried the

the three Goderich touchdowns.

Reports indicate that the im-
mediate Goderich and Clinton
areas were shaken about noon
on Tuesday by a mild ear-
thquake. Numerous residents in
both communities say a tremor
at about 12:15 shook homes in
Goderich, Clinton, Saltford and
outlying districts enough to rat-
tle doors and windows and
bounce dishes around in' their
cupboards.

STOL (short take -off and lan-
ding) aircraft now being
manufactured by de Havilland.
Dave Gower appeared before

Mgnday evening to serve notice
that he has made application

municipality. Gower, who has
had the land for three years

pressed disappointment at the
lack of support but, pledged to
continue efforts to form an ef-
fective voice for ratepayers of
this community through a

division mine at. Goderich
returned to their jobs shortly
after 4:00 p.m. Thursday after
a fire, which caused an
estimated $100,000 damage,
finally burned itself out on the..
1760 foot level of the mine. The
fire is believed to have been
initiated by electricity.
At a meeting on Mon ay

set up by the Goderich
Businessmen's Association to
oversee the initial steps " of a
downtown refurbishing project,
met at the Bedford Hotel and
accepted tenders for the first
stage of' planning. .,
The Goderich Industrial Cor-
poration is this week kicking off
a drive to raise money for its
activities through the sale of
More shares to the public. The
funds would go toward the
proposed construction of a
building at the local Industrial.

A letter from. the Hon. John
White Ministry of Treasury
Economics and Intergovern-
mental Affairs, came before' a
recent meeting of the Goderich
Businessmen's` Association and
later went before the Huron
County Planning Board. The
tetter dealt with some of the
problems surrounding the
proposed amndment to
Goderich's Official Plan in con-
nection with the shopping plaza
planned by Suneoast Estates
Limited. Mr. White's letter
showed that the proposed plaza
July 12 A drilling rig and crew were at the Goderich harbor drilling test holes to deter-
mine the rock strata. The holes were necessary step for pile driving operations which will be
part of a project to replace the north east wall of the harbor which has fallen into disrepair.

An application' made by
Rockledge Properties Ltd. has
increased the battle in
Goderich over shopping plazas.
Earlier in the year Suncoaat
Estates Ltd. served notice of
their intentions to • build a
$2,000,000 mall. in Goderich.
Objections were raised by the
local businessmen. Late last
week Rockledge applied to
Goderich Township Council for
a building permit for a shop-
ping plaza. As it stands no one
is quite sure who will beable to
build, if anyone at all.
Although there is presently a
"freeze" on commercial
development in Goderich
Township imposed by Hon.
John White last Thursday just
minutes after Rockledge
Properties Limited received
their permit, vice-president of
the company, Gordon Smith
feels there is a good chance
their mall will receive ap-
proval? Smith said the matter
is before the courts and the
decision is expected within 30
days.
John Talbot, union steward
for Local 210 of the Service
Employees International Union
which represents non-
professional employees at
Alexandra Marine'end General
Hospital, announced late
Tuesday that union members
would be picketing the local
hospital between 2:00 and 5:00
p.m. today in support of
demands being.presented to the_
-Province_ of Ontario. Mr.
Talbot said his union
represents all employees at the
local hospital excepting
registered nurses, doctors> and
professional technicians.

Goderich and area.' At last
week's Town Council meeting
members of that body rescinded
Bylaws 39 and 40 which would
have made it possible for Sun -
