Huron County Health Unit

ment James Auld has agreed to
supply two technicians to con-
duct a cottage survey along the
eroded shoreline of Lake
Huron, no official word as yet
been received from the Ministry
itself.

Resources has sent out letters
to the various townships in the
• Huron -Perth Counties asking
for their approval to hold an
archery season on deer this fall
from October 29 until Novem-
ber 25. To date, only four town-
ships have replied. They all
flatly rejected the proposal,
Goderich Township in their
reply stated that they were "op -
Posed to a deer season of any
kirid". The limit per hunter
would be one deer.
The Signal -Star made one of
their most serious
typographical errors when a
picture of Mery Witter was run
telling of his promotion • to
Sergeant.- after being with the
force for six weeks. It was sup-
posed VP read six years.
Apologies were extended 'to Sgt.
Witter.
One hundred and ten of the
180 members of Local 682, In-
ternational Chemicals workers
met on Sunday and voted to
strike DOMTAR's Chemicals
Sifto Salt mine in Goderich. No
work stoppage is expected
however until May 22.

It may be a week or more
before the Goderich Detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial
Police are informed by
Canadian Forces Base London
just what the canister, resem-
bling a bomb found Monday by
youngsters on a beach north of
Godericicr actually is. The
canister, which now thought to
be a smoke bonib, was found
along the lake shore about five
miles north of here Monday af-
ternoon by youngsters playing
in the area. Instructions were
on the canister for the steps to
arm the mechanism but
nothing explained how to
defuse it.
Linton and Hirst Limited
will co-operate with the
Goderich Industrial Com-
mission and exchange the
present lot they own for
another one in the Industria
Park. The Industrial Com-
mission, had written to Linton
and Hirst to make Suggestion of
an exchange when it became
evident that Signal -Star
Publishing Limited was in-
terested in the lot.
The Canadian Radio and
Television Commission is ex-
pected to make a decision in
the near future on an ap-
plication filed by Airland Com-
munkation 'Services Ltd. of
Goderich to provide cable
television service to the com-
munities of Listowel, Exeter
and Centralia. At' present
Airland provide* such service
to Goderich, Clinton and
Strathroy and installed the
cable televieion system now in
service at Kincardine.

The Knights_of Columbus in
Goderich ate very active in the
Pro -Life efforts in the _town.
They sponsored a 25 -mile
walkathon and a poster conteei,
at St. Joseph's Separate School.
Both were very effective for the
club in raising funds and par-
ticipation in the effort.
Tim McGee a local athlete
was runner-up in the all On-
tario school Track and Field
meet held at the ,C.N.E.
stadium. He was 81/2" short of
the winning throw in the
midget shot put event. The
student at G.D.C.I. along with
fellow athlete Gerry (O'Brien
competed in the event after
they both excelled in the
Huron -Perth Track and Field
meet.

adults in Goderich which is un-
der ' the direction of Mrs.

of the proceeds from the circus
which recently played Goderich
under the auspices of the local

plaza began to take shape at
last Tuesday's meeting of the
Goderich Planning Board. The
Businessmen's Association,
with the help of lawyer George
Plaxton, made a report denying
Suncoast's claims that the area
will be able to support both a
plaza and the existing stores.
Special reference was made to
the proposed A and P store that
will occupy space in the plaza.
The businessmen4claim that it
would . be impossible for the
other grocery stores in the area
to compete.
About 70 out of 130 par-
ticipants who began theig25-mile'
walk to raise funds for the anti-
abortion publicity 'campaign
made it the full route to help
realize an estimated $2,000 for
the cause. One of the featured
walkers, , who only made 22
miles was sixty-four year old
John Dykstra of Goderich who
walked because he believed in
the Ten Commandments, in-
cluding, the one "Thou Shalt
Not Kill." -
A plea for a Vendors Permit
from James Fraser caused
some concern for the Town
Council, Mr. Fraser wanted to
begin a Good Humor franchise
for the summer. 'COtincillor
Frank Walkom felt that --not
only would it cause.ali'eat deal
of litter, but it may also entice'
youngsters to run across roads,
thus causing accidents. The
discussion WaS postponed until
the police could give some corn-
ment.
Two hundred persons paid

raising kick off dinner on Thur-
sday evening at the Sunset Golf
Club in Goderich. Among those
in attendance were special
guegts Paul Henderson, Garry
Doak,and Larry Jeffrey of NHL
fame. The recreation centre
project„, which will include an
indoor swimming pool, rink,
auditorium and senior citizens
recreation facilities is expected
to cost an estimated $500,000.

The "Save. The Still" Society
has succeeded in saving the
wall of the jail but now are at-
tempting to secure permission
from Courity,„Council to shoot a
film in and about the old
ilding to promote it as -a
urist activity in the future.
The group hopes to show the,
film in various locations
throughout the county in an ef-
fort to raise funds to turn the
idle into an historical *mac
tion for Huron County.
The town ratepayers were
relieved to hear that 'the tax
hike for the new budget was to
be 20 mills instead of the ex-.
pected 25. The town made
every effort to curb expenditure
in an attempt jo have the rate
remain the seine as 1972 but
could not see it through.

Thursday morning marked
an importaht day for two
Goderich men as their. hand -
built two-seater plane we's
transported to Sky Harbour
Airport. The plane was built by
Fred Bruinsma and Syd Sullen
in Mr. Bruinsma's garage
taking five years work in the
• two men's spare time. Final
mechical checks on the plane
are now being carried out at
the airport and it is expected
the craft will have its first test
flight soon with Lloyd Atfieid
at the controls.
The Huron County Branch of
the Architieturai Conservancy
of Ontario,, forrnerly the Save
the Jail Society met for their
first meeting to discuss fund
raising toward the establish-
ment of the Huron County Jail 0

project of the group is the
