Cargo aboard the 620 foot
"Hind" topped a previous
record set late last season by
the "Agawa Canyon" which
arrived at the Goderich harbor
with 622,550 bushels of grain
for the elevators.
The "Golden Hind" was
built as a tanker at the'.
Cojlingwood Shipyards in 1952
as the "Imperial Woodland"
and served as such until she
was converted to bulk carrier in
1954 and renamed "Gulden
Hind".
She is 620 feet in. length, 68
feet on the beam anti draws 35
feer of Water -Her "e8patity. is
divided in four compartments.
Combined with the arrival of
two smaller boats this week the
"Hind's" cargo will nearly fill
the local elevators to capacity.
She picked up her jvad -.of
grain at facilities in Thunder
Bay last Tuesday.
The shortage of box -cars to
transport grain from prairie
provinces to the lakehead
elevators has been causing
some difficulties for eastern
elevator companies attemi ting
to fill their facilities for the
coming winter but officials of
• the,Goderich Elevator company
say they will have enough grain
in storage now to fill needs
through the winter.

Shorthorn Club elects
Brussels man president

Brunner was elected president
of the Perth -Huron Shorthorn
Club at the annual dinner
meeting at the United Church
in E`gmondville last Friday. He
succeeds Frank Falconer of RR
5, Clinton.
Other officers, elected were:
vice-presidents, Ross Proctor of
RR. 5 Brussels, and Ken
McWhinney of RR 1, Lucknow;
and secretary -treasurer, Gerald
Smith of RR 2, Brussels.
M'r. Proctor was named -
"nominee' director to the On-
tario Shorthorn Club.
Douglas McDonnell,
Toronto, assistant -manager of
the Ontario Public Stockyards,
spoke on the stockyards. He
said ,it was the biggest terminal
market in Canada. It is owned
by the company but the
local couple mark silver

surprise dinner party
On November 24 a• dinner
was given in honor of the 25th
wedding anniversary of Mr.
and Mrs.' Harry Tideswell.
Mrs. George Baxter, Mrs.
Tideswell's mother attended as
well as their immediate family
and their husbands. Mrs. Bax-
ter is the only living parent left:
of either Mr. or Mrs. Tideswell.
Later that evening a surprise
reception was given by - the
family and Mr. and Mrs.
William Stephens, held at the
Stephen s residence. A large
number, of friends and relatives
attended from as far away abs,
London, Windsor, Woodstock
and Clinton.
None of the original bridal
party attended: Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Campbell of London
were best man and matron of
honor and Mrs. Jon Lep-
pingt"on of Clinton was
bridesmaid. Mr.. Campbelr ana
Mrs. , Leppinton are both
deceased. Mrs: Campbell has
since. reMfi"arried and living in
British Columbia and was
unable to make the trip back
for the occasion. •
Mr. and Mrs. David Mathers
(nee Karen Tidesweill gave the
happy couple a new grand-
daughter for their anniversary.

Mr. McDonnell said' the for-
mer trend was for a small,
blockish animal with fat, with
the Shorthorn being one of the
most popular breeds.
Today the new trend in the
beef system calls for a larger,
more muscled animal, with not
too much fat cover, he said.
Mr., McDonnell talked abou
breeds, the purebreds, the
exotics and crossbreeding. He
said it does not matter what.
the breeding is as 1png as it, is
the right kind of animal wan-
ted by the -buyers.
