A let- ter was received by council at last Thursday's regular meeting. Councillor Elsa Haydon suggested that a letter be sent to -the--Association advising them that the matter has been brought to the attention of council. Deputy -reeve Stan Profit suggested that mentbers of the Association should also be reminded in the letter that Goderich Town Council has nothing to do with the method of calculating fees in connec- tion with the South Storm Sewer. * * * The Goderich Ratepayers' Association has also advised Goderich Town Council it igfi opposed to rezoning to permit t' the construction of row housing in the Gibbons, Bennett and Suncoast Drive, area. The letter stated the Association was not in favor of the way the row housing question was "handled". Councillor Dave Gower said the Association should be more specific in their correspondence, rather than simply stating it was opposed to the way the matter was "handled". Deputy -reeve Stan Profit said the matter was still under study and Reeve Deb Shewfelt pointed out many of the problems involving the project would be solved., when the Restricted Area Bylaw (Zoning Bylaw) is circulated in the next few weeks. - Later in the meeting; the Restricted ,Area Bylaw was given third and final reading and will 'be sent to all ratepayers in the municipality within the next few days. * * * be serviced by cable television. "- The The government is assuming full responsibility for security and for the -expenses of elec- tricity in recording and heating during the period of operation. Walter Sheardowh is managing the station on behalf of the government, n was lear- ned. He will be visiting the site regularly once daily. The Ontario Housing Cor- poration has inquired into the possibility of receiving a resolution from Goderich Town Council giving council's ap- proval of a HOME (Horne Ownership Made Easy) program in Goderich if and when land becomes available. "We will continue to examine the possibilities,, of implemen- ting a HOME program in your municipality and will keep you informed as to our progress," wrote W.A. Way of the Land Acquisition and Management' branch. The resolution of council goes out this week. * * * Council gave its approval last week for the local Public Utilities Commission to in- crease its collection fee by ten cents per customer per month. The present collection charges ampunt to $2.10 RAF customer per annum and with the new fee added on, it will amount to $3.30 per annum for each customer. Due to rapidly increasing costs in all phases of the PUC operation, council was told, the increases was recommended by the Ontario Hydro Auditor. *** Council has been advised that Delbar cannot claim a right to use the -open ditch dug and maintained by Suncoast Estates Limited just because part of it is located on a town - owned easement. A letter from B.M. Ross and one from Town Solicitor Dan Murphy explained the situation fully surrounding the 50 foot easement which runs from Sheaffer Pen's plant to the pollution control plant at the South of Delbar's subdivision and through - Suncoast's land. The letter from Murphy opened some discussion once more at Pcouncil as to who ac- tually does own Suncoast Drive - the Town or Suncoast. It has generally been agreed that while the Town has not of- ficially assumed ownership of the street, Suncoast Drive has Paul Carroll, Chairman of the Harbor Liaison Committee of the Goderich.. Sailing Club has requested an opportunity for the committee to meet with council to present a short set of :suggestions on repairs' to Sntg ti Harbor. Ina letter to council, Carroll said the group was aware of plans for some repairs at the marina and suggested they might be able to add some ideas to those already reviewed. `cJ The matter will be taken up at a Public Works Committee meeting, maybe tonight (December 13, 7 p.m., council chambers), John G. Berry wrote to town council thanking them forthe completion 'of the paving project on Brock Street. Mr. Berry's letter also ex- pressed a hope that the new street surface would not attract speedsters. * The AdrpLinistrative,Commit- tee has been asked to look into the matter of cable television installations in Goderich.' Councillor E'isa Haydon com- plained that it some areas of the town, it appears that the' cable television company is not adhering strictly to their plans for underground installations wherever possible. Mrs. Haydon remarked there are some places where "un- sightly overhead lines" appear to have been used where un- derground installations would have been possible. Deputy -reeve Stan Profit defended the company by saying that the bulk of lines are underground, but added that the company is "maybe not exercising the proper restraints in certain areas". Reeve Deb Shewfelt told council he felt there were times when overhead lines could not be avoided if all people are to OPEN HOUSE FOR MR. & MRS.
