annual meeting that greater
participation by Ontario far-
mers is needed to provide "the
strong effective voice necessary
to improve the agriculture in-
dustry."
Mr. Hill, a beef producer
from Varna, -who in four yearn
has turned a relatively weak
farmers' group into a strong
g
provincial farm lobby, told
delegates the federation is
aiming for 26,000 members by
next fall.
"It's a fast-moving world and
we're living in the day of the
lobby," he•said. "Either we dig
in and get our share or learn to
be satisfied with what's left
over."

Mr. Hill defeated first vice-
president Frank Wall of Port
Burwell and John Carley, a
Leeds County Federation
direcotr, on the first ballot.
Results of thevoting were not
made public.
Also re-elected were Mr.
Wall as first vice-president,
and Keith Matthie of RR 3,
Brockville, as - second—vice-
president
econd-vice-
president both with first -ballot
victories.
Mr. Hill told delegates the
federation has come a long way
in the past 35 years but faces
"many changes....that affect
farmers."
With the federation's main
source of revenue being the an-
nual dues of its membership,
the group needs more members
and more• involvement on their
part if the OFA is to continue
to lobby for what it (eels is
adequate farm legislation, he
said.
Even with present member-
ship of 18,000 the OFA still
represents only about athird of
"serious farmers" —in_ the
province he said.
Mr. Hill said although the
net income picture for Ontario
farmers this year will be
brighter than in recent years,
he forsaw "dimmer days
ahead."
And he warned farmers:
"Regardless how efficient we
are as producers, if we do a
poor job of marketing, we are
throwing money away. We have
