He told more than 400 delegates to the federation's Gordon Hill, Varna, beads OFA GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6 1973 -7 -PAGE 11B annual meeting that greater participation by Ontario far- mers is needed to provide "the strong effective voice necessary to improve the agriculture in- dustry." Mr. Hill, a beef producer from Varna, -who in four yearn has turned a relatively weak farmers' group into a strong g provincial farm lobby, told delegates the federation is aiming for 26,000 members by next fall. "It's a fast-moving world and we're living in the day of the lobby," he•said. "Either we dig in and get our share or learn to be satisfied with what's left over." Results of thevoting were not made public. Also re-elected were Mr. Wall as first vice-president, and Keith Matthie of RR 3, Brockville, as - second—vice- president econd-vice- president both with first -ballot victories. Mr. Hill told delegates the federation has come a long way in the past 35 years but faces "many changes....that affect farmers." With the federation's main source of revenue being the an- nual dues of its membership, the group needs more members and more• involvement on their part if the OFA is to continue to lobby for what it (eels is adequate farm legislation, he said. Even with present member- ship of 18,000 the OFA still represents only about athird of "serious farmers" —in_ the province he said. Mr. Hill said although the net income picture for Ontario farmers this year will be brighter than in recent years, he forsaw "dimmer days ahead." And he warned farmers: "Regardless how efficient we are as producers, if we do a poor job of marketing, we are throwing money away. Bennett. Each of the loans is repayable with 6 per- cent interest. A -new trailer park will be established in Huron County and the facilities at a nearby campground will be improved.
