DECEMBER 6, 1973 Under the direction of Clifford Evens the London Symphony Orchestra will present a concert at the Goderich4 i'nd District Collegiate Institute auditorium December 15 beginning at 8:30 p.m. The program will have a special Christ- mas flavor and Is set to wind up with a Christmas Carol sing.along led by the When the London Symphony Orchestra comes to Goderich December 15 they will present a special Christ- mas oriented program under the direction of Clifford Evens. Mr. Evens was born and educated in Vancouver, British Columbia and has been a professional violinist of many years standing. He was concertmaster and Associate Conductor of the Victoria_ Symphony for II years, taught violin at the University of British Columbia and has studied conducting under Nicolas Slominsky and Sir John Barbirolli. He was appointed Music Director and Conductor of, the London Symphony Orchestra in 1969. On the way home she called at Sydney, Australia and visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Goodrick, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Mrs. Myrtle Goodrick of Goderich. Janet M. Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Williams, 180 Hincks St., recently learned that she had passed the 'Registered Nurses examinations written in Lon- don in August. She had' graduated in July from Owen Sound Regional, School of Nur- . sing. Earle Terry Singers who will also be appearing on the program with the or- chestra. The concert is being brought to Goderich under the sponsorship of the local Rotary Club and the, Sully Foundation. Tickers are now on sale from Rotary Club 'members. The agricultural Manpower Branch of the On- tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food reports that they can't keep up with the demand for qualified help. Mrs. C. E. Johnson, secretary to the Direc- tor of the Branch, says, "The number of requests for farm labor has inci•easkd dramatically in recent months, with about 85 percent being calls for skilled and semi- skilled help on dairy farms." She 'adds that dairy farmers are --willing to take persons with some basic training, Such as is offered by the Dairy Herd Workers' course, which will be available- in the Kemptville area .again this year. The 10 -week course is offered jointy- fly the" federal Depart: ment' of Manpower and Im- -migration, and ARDA and Agricultural Manpower Bran- ches of the Ontario Ministry Of Agriculture and Fdod. 'It will_ start January 7, 1974. The program is divided into two-week alternating periods .in the classroom and on the farm. Classroom and laboratory .studies --total four weeks, and - for the remainder, students receive practical on-farm training: A student is placed on three different farms during the course, so that he gains varied experience on dairy farms. On completing the training course successfully, a student is awar- ded 4 certificate. People from urban areas are invited to apply. Feagan has been one of the most consistent harness racing drivers in Canada.
