To those of you in the 'Sunny
South' I want you to know
you've missed some beautiful
fall weather -- in the north.
Altho' we are in for some
rain - or worse - we can barely
believe the great days we've
had - and are still having in
December. Someone said, `We
had some "Squaw Winter" so
this must be "Indian Sum-
mer".' - and I agree.
Sunday was beautiful . and
Monday the sun seemed to be
just beaming brighter than
ever. The sunsets have been.
breathtaking - and the grass
needs cutting! -
Last Saturday, cool, no snow,
but GREAT- for the Santa
Parade and Santa's Court af-
ter. We certainly had hundreds
lining the route - don't' know
where they all came from or
went to but they surely enjoyed
the fine parade of bands, cute
majorettes, great floats - a lot
of clowns and walkers and
FUN !- and a chance to 'see the
new fire engine -- off duty.
It was nice, in a way, to see
the big new engine - and won-
derful to see the old, old -oldie
which the MOCHA Shrine Clu
proudly drove around t
streets.
I thought Matt Ainslie was
in his glory - He's so proud of
that 'old fire engine and so glad
he could get it here this year.
The Snoopy Float, made by
fellows at the G.P.H. (or O.H.
as I always think of it) was just
outstanding. Beautifully
created, it would be a fine ad-
dition to ANY parade. Altho'
the parade was a little shorter,
' the floats and bands and par-
ticipants were just wonderful.
I want- to .say I'm proud of
the lot 9f you and thank you
very much!
Whether a Shopping Plaza is
built IN the town or out in the
Township, the fact that the
merchants have been working
together to create a more
beautiful Shopping Centre in
the heart of Goderich is the
most exciting news of the cen-
tury.
They can - and now I feel
they WILL - create a Square
Kinette cake
winner named
that 'everyone will be proud of
and an elegant and ' attractive
centre which' will bring the
shoppers in regardless of what
we have on the outskirts.
Since Goderich is unique -,in
many ways and things a great
new look to fine old buildings
will do wonderful thin:- for
Goderich Town. I'm sure the
majority of the people herewill
stand behind this group
because deep down we all love
THE SQUARE and WANT it
to be tops in Huron County - or
South.western Ontario - for that
matter.
So let's stop panning our
local merchants - let's take a
better look at the fine merchan-
dise they havg to offer. If `you
think prices are high - you'd
drop dead when you face them
in the..,ity.
While still thinking about
Christmas, the parties - the
parade etc. - I want to say
"Thank you" to several nice
people who helped' bag candies,
helped give them out later and
many who helped_ in other ways
to make this December first a
great day for everyone.
Especially, I ---was pleased in
the way our handsome Police.
Chief and several of his good
looking boys in blue helped
with Santa's Court and the
crowds of children on this ex-
citing day. It was a sight to
behold when a little one spoke
up to Santa and just sparkled.
I know they were just as moved
by the emotion and. beauty of
the moment as the rest of .us
were.
I'm always wishing someone
would capturethis precious
moment in a child's life,. on
film.
This Saturday is that
GREAT FOOD fair at St.
George's Church Parish Hall 2
p.m. They say 'Everything from
mince meat to meat loaves' and
that's the TRUTH!
`Have fun at your Christmas
Parties. just think how lucky we
are to have so many nice
friends and happy times.
Love, Martha
We are into the month of
December and the curling is
proceeding smoothly. Quite a
few new faces are evident this
year and we welcome them
most heartily.
On Tuesday, November 20
the Pfrimmer Bros. trophy was
presented to Don Edward, Eric
Moore, Jameson Ribeyvand Bill
Brown. This rink was winner of
the Tuesday night league's
third and last draw of the 1972-
73 season.
Speaking of winners, it would
appear that at least eight of our
members will be well fed this
Christmas. The gentlemen in
question are 3erald Walters,
Tom Jasper, Don Edward and
John Brownridge who won the
11 a.m. draw in Exeter on Dec.
1 and received a 25 ib. turkey
each for their efforts. Another
rink skipped by Cam Bogie and
including Jim Hawkins, Phil
Foster and Ralph Foster came
in second in the 9 o'clock draw.
Congratulations to you all.
December is a busy month
for us all but do jot down the
following dates for your calen-
dar. December 8 is the Shaeffer.__.,
Pen Men's Bonspiel. The draw
is filled but everyone is
welcome to come down and see
some fine curling etc. The usual
Boxing Day Mixed Jitney will
take place on that day and
more details of this fun day
will follow at a later date.
The big "do" in this month is
of"course the New Year's Eve
dance. Tickets are $15.00 a
couple and may' be purchased
from Fanny or any of the'Direc-
tors. Dancing to the swinging
sounds of the Happy Medium
from 10 to 3 a.m. plus a buffet
should make for a great
evening. As usual the tickets
available are limited so I urge
you to pick yours up without
delve.
To give you a brief preview of
what January has to offer, let
me draw your attention to
January 13 at which time the
British Consul playdowns will
take place at our club. This is
to determine the winners for
the right to go on.in the British
Consuls competition., Club
playdowns for the privilege of
playing in this event wil,_1 take
place before that date and'once
again I must add that more in-
formation will be forthcoming
at a later date, both in this
column andv on the club
bulletin board.
The Past Noble Grand's Club'
of Goderich Rebekah Lodge 89
enjoyed a Christmas Party last
Thursday evening in the
Carlow Hall when Tiger
Dunlop Women's Institute ser-
ved them a delicious turkey
dinner.
The tables, were attractively
decorated with Christmas holly
- and lighted Christmas Tapers
and Mrs... Ruth Hayden,
president, welcomed thirty
ladies to the Annual Christmas
Sunshine Sister Banquet.
After the meal the members,
enjoyed discovering their secret
sunshine sister and a game of
500 was enjoyed by all with the
winners being Mrs. Elva
Osbaldeston and Mrs.
Elizabeth Sitter.
