undoubtedly, the nature of its
people, who are, in the main,
friendly, kind and helpful.
The idea that Barbados is
merely a paradise for
millionaires is a myth, for the
island has one of the greatest
variety of hotels, apartments,
cottages' and guest houses -
among holiday areas anywhere.
There are mane low cost ITC
charter programs and special
hotel packages available also
and these can he arranged
through travel agents in
Canada.
Popular with Canadian
visitors are the afternoon and
twilight cruises on a pirate ship

Shopping in Barbados is both
simple and attractive. And to
the visitor who will be taking
their purchases back home,

Canadian visitors no longer
require smallpox vaccination

and a proof of citizenship and a
return ticket are all that is
required for entry. Vacationers
may stay up to six months per
visit.
The Barbados economy
depends , heavily on .tourism
and the happy visitor. The
people have gone 'out of their
way to make- Barbados more
than just an island in the sun.

standard sizes. In the interests
of economy, efficiency and,con-

advocates the use of Canada

UC minister
favors guaranteed
annual income
The man the United Church
has appointed to head up its
concern with poverty believes
implementation of a. Guaran-
teed Annual Income plan to be
inevitable.
Rev. Robert Lindsey,
associate secretary of the
Division of Mission in Canada,
reasons that as automation
continues to eliminate jobs, full
employment will become
almost impossible to maintain.
Unless a totalitarian
program is set up,' with people
being obliged one way or
another to fill government -
created jobs, some sort of
overall income will have to be
established, Mr. Lindsey
foresees.
The beginnings of the
Guaranteed Annual Income
(GAI) exist, he notes. Unem-
ployment insurance, welfare,
old age pensions and family
allowances — now being in-
creased are a start.
Medicare, public education and
price controls are other
elements of a GAI system.
He predicts that schemes

ward to the day when people
will have no idealism," he said.
Essentially there are three
directions modern society can
take in distributing society's
wealth, in Mr. 'tindsey view:
GAI, Marxism or Fascism. The
GAI would be as revolutionary
as the other two, that it
would involve a tremendous
"freeing up" of society. Many
people would work harder than
they do now, he believes,
because they would be doing
what they liked rather than
what they had to do. And those
who wouldn't be working?
"Maybe the world would be
better if some people were idle
rather than working at certain
kinds of work."
