Durst .farm . today,
and about 1836 or 1837 erected
the big house still standing
there. He brought artisans and
material from York county, but
the sons' houses probably were
built by themselves, with
brotherly help.
The Joseph Fisher house,
now passing from the scene, has
seen six or seven generations of
Fishers and witnessed olborne
history from ox-wr..:9,1/po, to
motorcar and airplan In its
prime, there was custom or
conferring upon householders,
especially newlyweds, an un-
wanted and noisy demon-
stration known as a shivaree.
It is related that one. par-
ticipant who fired a shot into
the upper floor of the Joe
Fisher house turned to flee, but
not in, time. Joe's shotgun
charge caught him in the rear-
most part of his anatomy, and
the memory of that incident
still lives in the Benrniller area.

When the blooms have gone,
the plant' may be carried over

little soil, but no alkaline sand:
In the spring, after the danger
of frost is over, put the plant
still in the pot, into an acid soil

With proper care, your win-

a second winter.
The older part of this partly demolished house at the
Maitland concession turn east of Renmiller Is believed to
have been built 136 years ago for Joseph Fisher, noted
breeder and importer of horses and cattle. The squared
beech logs measure up to 17 inches in width, and -are
dovetailed with great skill and accuracy. The house is on Lot
6, Con. 1, Colborne, and belongs to Herman Fisher, Ben -
miller, fifth of the family to own it. (photo by W.E. Elliott)
